Not just another Viking movie
Robert Eggers does it again! This isn't just another viking movie, it is one of the BEST dramas ever! GREAT action & emotional too. A fitting end, while also setting up what's next. It is a stunning tale of betrayal and obsessive revenge. With excellent world building saturating every frame, it's one of the most transporting, magical, action-soaked films in some time. Must watch.
Beautiful...and Boring
I despise Robert Eggers' "The Northman"-truly, I hate this movie with a passion. And yet, I can't deny it's a visual marvel, maybe one of the most beautifully shot films ever made, so I'm grudgingly giving it 6 stars. The cinematography is jaw-dropping: every frame is a brutal, primal painting-icy fjords, blood-soaked earth, and firelit faces that scream raw power. It's a feast for the eyes, no question, with a meticulous beauty that almost justifies its existence.
But that's where the praise ends. The pacing is a slog-slow, plodding, and borderline torturous. What could've been a gripping Viking revenge epic drowns in its own artsy muck, sucking out any shred of entertainment. The story's thin as gruel, and the deliberate tempo feels less profound and more like a punishment. I wanted to love it, but the boredom killed me long before the credits rolled. It's a gorgeous bore-a stunning shell with no soul. Six stars for the visuals alone, because I'm not blind, just miserable watching it.

Another movie let down by weak writing
Can't really recommend it unless you either love the main actor and/or Viking movies. Even then I actually like both, but am still disappointed overall mostly due to the script
Its full of irrelevant filler, the right move was to make it shorter as it runs a lot longer than it needed too so does drag on. The plot has some really dumb "moves" in it, which can make it a little frustrating to watch. I could go on but you get the idea, Producer and Director are probably somewhat to blame too, but overall the Directing was good other than not trying to tighten this up more
On the brighter side Acting is good, there is some action and it is a revenge movie, though not an original one by any stretch.

Quality film
Young director Robert Eggers is back at it again with his most recent take on a movie based around vikings, now first of all I have to give full credit to the film when it comes to capturing the brutality of vikings because it is done spectacularly. The film itself is entertaining and the cast delivers great performances all around, this role shows that Alexander Skarsgård has what it takes to be a top tier dramatic actor as he arguably delivers a career-high performance.
Now for people contemplating whether or not they should see the film because Eggers' films so far have been "too artsy" and "not for the general audience" should put their worries aside and purchase their tickets because there isn't much to worry about even though there will be many classic Eggers shots he is typically known for.
As for the small negatives about the film; I felt disappointed in how little we got of Dafoe as he often shines with these types of directors. I do also have to say that the movie isn't exactly how it is shown in the trailers (less action in the final product), some people claim the trailers are superior and even though I enjoyed my time in the cinema I slightly agree with those claims.

Looked like it should be good, but lacked
This film looks good, sounds good, has the actors to be good, but dissappoints.
Another film that is all about clips that look really good but on watching, it is difficult to feel any real interest in the story coz it is so rambling and jumps about..
Other aspects are just unbelievable, nonsense battle scenes etc.
This obviously was made with a lavish budget, visually it looks great, but it doesn't make up for the lacking of story. I couldn't help but compare this to 'The 13th Warrior' which does have a good story (similar era)
The music, if that's what you call it, quickly began to get on my nerves with the constant 'dirge'.
Another irritance was the weird variable accents, sometimes Scottish, bit of Irish, inconsistant mish mash.
I kept waiting for it to get interesting, but it never did 6/10 just for visuals.

- QuizThe Valkyrja's dental markings are based on bodies in Viking graves with horizontal lines carved into the teeth. The practice was particularly common on the island of Gotland. The principal theory is that the carvings were decorations, filled with colored pigment.
- BlooperThe runic inscription of "Amleth's Saga" is written incorrectly in the movie version as opposed to the trailer of The Northman where it is correct. The title shown in the trailer written with runes can be translated to "amluthasaka" or amlóða saga, amleth's saga.
However at the end of the actual movie the title is missing the rune of "a" from its word saga, making it read akin to "Amleth's sga".
