Bad Cupid

It's been quite awhile since I've actually written out a review for a movie, but since this one has so few reviews and therefor a pretty low rating, I feel obligated to. So, here it is: this film is cute, it's legitimately funny, the storyline is fun, the acting is good (for an indie film), each character actually has a fair amount of depth and/or personality to them, there's these really wonderful quirky bits of animation scattered throughout the film which I personally love, and the fun angsty music soundtrack is really good too, and somehow perfectly fits the overall Buffalo, New York-ness of the film that is very present - the music, the snow, the bagels, the dreary bars and daytime drunks...it's got it all, and I loved every bit of it. Maybe you will too, give it a shot! :)

The story and filming are rather basic, BUT. I enjoyed the acting, the humoristic situations, the funny dialogues, the 'freshness' of the latino actress, the originality of the script. There's one long scene in a plain toilet of some bar that's over 15-20minutes long. It must have been a feat to keep this scene interesting. Nice!

Quirky, romance-themed comedy about love and the role Cupid plays in it. Cupid is Archie, played by John Rhys Davies, as a curmudgeon matchmaker, who's tired of the role he plays in love and will do anything to succeed. Great scene in the bathroom that could have been stretched out for the whole movie. Many laughs at the banter going on between the characters about Dave's love situation. If you are looking for something different, this is a go.

John Rhys-Davies is such a gem in this movie. My husband and I laughed out loud several times. It doesn't take itself too seriously. Highly recommend.

I wish some of the people who rated this movie so low had written reviews explaining why. I laughed all the way through it. It's a whole new genre, dark comedy romcom. The scenario is outrageous, Rhys-Davies and Briana Marin even moreso. It's hard to describe without giving too much away. If you're looking for "You've Got Mail" or some traditional romcom like that, walk away. But, if you want to take a risk on something out there, give it a try.
