Riepilogo
Reviewers say 'Hocus Pocus 2' is appreciated for nostalgic elements, the return of the Sanderson sisters, and fun performances. Callbacks and new songs are enjoyed, though humor is sometimes criticized as too kid-friendly or forced. The film's exploration of sisterhood and emotional moments resonate, yet it faces criticism for a weak plot, underdeveloped new characters, and a lack of the original's magic. Despite mixed reviews, it is seen as a fun, if imperfect, sequel.

Fan Service With No Substance
Hocus Pocus 2 uses a plethora of nostalgic references to the 1993 film. It follows basic legacyquel rules - bringing back characters and repeating old narrative concerns for a new audience. However, it's almost exactly the same premise, just set in contemporary times and touches on contemporary discussions around female empowerment.
Some of the jokes are funny, and Bette Midler brings star power, but I can't help but think this sequel tarnishes the original. Hocus Pocus 2 didn't have the fun and thrills of the first film. It is very Disneyfied. More child friendly, and has no real antagonist.
As a fan of the first film who watched it as a child, I hoped this sequel would have a continuation of story, and would trigger nostalgia in a positive way. Unfortunately, it was a disappointment.

Fun, but not as fun as the original
I'll try my best to not spoil it...
It was a fun film, has nothing on the original sadly.
Referring to the 1993 movie with someone in the film watching the original! How's that possible!
I feel they tried too hard here at times Some of the jokes just over the top As much as the sets looked good, they also looked fake I feel kids will like it but the long time fans will enjoy it just not love it as much as the original
Lots of links to the first and hooks to match them up, but 3 key people missing with no real mention yet the evens were.
As I said it's fun, very "camp" can I say that?
I didn't have much hope for it and I was right for that, I also predicted the store for the main character
Also, the story of where Book came from was changed for this film
Will I watch it again, yeah of course and in time it more than likely might become a classic no brain power needed movie.
But the original will never be beaten that's for sure.
Disney just don't do a Ghostbuster on us now... I feel that could happen
As as for the 2 cut scenes.

Strong Start, Weak Finish
The first half of the movie is really quite solid. The three girls who played the Sanderson Sisters as kids did an okay job. They captured the mannerisms quite well, but the actual acting was average. If this movie had been more focused on that part of the movie it would have been better. Unfortunately, only about 20 minutes of the movie's run-time is actually spent on that part of the movie. We didn't get the chance to really learn anything about either the young Sanderson Sisters or this 4th witch. She barely even spent any time in the movie and only served as a plot device for giving Winnifred her book. Although some of the witch's interactions with the modern era was funny, and there really are some funny moments in this movie(particularly at the beginning), it was just too much of retreading old ground and not enough fresh ideas. The general lack of original ideas really became prevalent at the halfway point when everything after that was just more of the same material from the first movie repurposed. There were some fun nodes and cameos here and there, but nothing particularly outstanding since they didn't get a chance to shine beyond a passing moment. The comedic elements quickly went from great and well executed at the beginning to less and less impressive as we got to the modern era part of the movie. It's as though they ran out of steam part way through and settled after having such a strong idea for the beginning. The song and dance number in the middle was really uninspired since it was just shoehorned in and not smoothly transitioned into like in the previous movie. Possibly, the worst part of this movie is the ending. It was an interesting idea of having the magic backfire on Winnifred and her sisters, but I didn't like how mushy the ending wound up being. It's as though the writers changed midway through so as to make it as non-scary or wicked as possible. The ending just felt out of character for Winnifred.
On a personal note, I really wish this movie had just focused on the Sisters as kids. There was a lot of potential in that part of the movie, and really getting to learn more about the Witch's Forest would have been a great angle to look at this movie from. It really would have been interesting to see an interaction with other witches or to see if the sisters gathered more sisters in their coven that were either betrayed or lost to time. Either way, they had something going with the earlier part of the movie that if they just kept going with it would have been amazing to see.
Sadly, this movie falls squarely in the middle because it just couldn't deliver beyond the halfway point.

Necessary Sequel? No. Fun? Yes.
I don't understand how fans of the first film would want to trash this.
The story offers a mix of prequel information, first film nostalgia and a decent revival of our characters. It isn't without flaws but after nearly thirty years, I found the plot interesting and fun to watch. The characters are older but still gave nice performances and the new characters weren't awful.
Most sequels fail to live up to the original film and you know this before sitting down but that doesn't mean they aren't fun to watch. I personally liked seeing the characters brought back and can honestly say that I enjoyed the experience. In my opinion, had the 1993 original not been made, simply cutting the references to it would've made this a fine stand alone film.
To each their own.

Another classic from my past sacrificed to the great mouse
Why? Why? Why?
I wanted to like this, I tried desperately to find an ounce of the old magic. Alas, it was.gone.
A contrived, unimaginative senseless film that should've been more.
It wasn't bad, but I hoped for so much better. It felt dull and lacklustre. The music scenes seemed shoehorned in for the sake of it.
Oddly enough, there was some good bits and incidental comedy, hence the 4 stars. Sadly there wasn't enough.
In my opinion, the casting was ok. The script could've so much better though.
It reminded me of the ghost busters film reboot, it added nothing and took so much more away.
On the whole, it was ok.

- QuizOn the podcast Inside of You (2018), Doug Jones said that the wig he wears as Billy Butcherson in this movie is the same one he wore in the first movie.
- BlooperGilbert states that as a child, he witnessed the climatic finale of the first movie, but in said film, all the children of Salem were under Sarah's trance at this point, marching towards the Sanderson cottage. Gilbert is clearly capable of performing magic and therefore, it's possible, he may be immune, like the Sanderson Sisters.
