Lyvia's House

I am mystified by the bizarre plot apparently carried out on IMDB to give this a 7+ rating last night, which has already dropped down to the 6-ish rating, which for all intents and purposes should be 3, 4 or a 5 at absolute best.

This is extremely low budget, cheesy, and comes across very much like a made-for-tv movie from the 1990s or early 2000s.

The leading lady and her man act like they cannot even tell that the woman in the painting looks exactly like her. This is not promising and I do not even want to keep watching it.

Absolutely terrible. None of the cast could act. At all! I'm sorry, but this movie was awful. The story wasn't believable from the start, with ridiculous scenes throughout. In the beginning the woman wakes up to a rat in her bed, instead of throwing off the covers and jumping out, she pulls the heap of comforter close to her and stays in bed while her boyfriend leaves the room (?) to look for the rat. Absurdities like that throughout, combined with zero talent, equals one terrible film.

Lyvia's House is a hauntingly gripping film that pulled me in from the very first scene. The pacing is perfect-slow enough to build dread, but never dragging-and the suspense is constant. What starts as a missing person case quickly unfolds into something far more sinister, with layers of secrets buried deep in a quiet town. The cinematography has this eerie beauty to it, and the score adds to the unease in all the right moments.

The lead actress delivered an incredibly raw performance, and the supporting cast brought depth and authenticity to every interaction. I was completely shocked by the final twist-it's the kind of ending that makes you want to rewatch the whole thing with new eyes. Knowing it was inspired by true events made the whole experience even more chilling. If you're into true crime, psychological thrillers, or small-town mysteries, this is one you won't want to miss. It stays with you.

I enjoyed this film very much and was lucky enough to see it at it's Yuba City, CA premier. I was so excited to see a local film that was so well executed! I am a fan of suspense and plot twists and this film will give you plenty!

Shot in a small farming community North of Sacramento, the landscape is extraordinary. With orchards and fields as a backdrop the film provides just the right atmosphere.

The actors do a wonderful job in their roles. The soundtack features several local singers and bands adding to this delightful production.

Lastly, although this is a thriller/drama/suspense film, be ready for laughs with properly inserted comic elements!

This movie was incredibly well written and packed with unexpected twists. I never saw the ending coming-it truly kept me on the edge of my seat. Based on a true story, it's a gripping thriller from start to finish. The storyline and setting were both unique and captivating. The cast did an outstanding job bringing their characters to life, making the entire experience feel real and intense. I was constantly wondering what wild turn would happen next. It's chilling to think such a sinister serial killer operated in such a small town. The film does a great job immersing you in the local community-you really feel the atmosphere and the fear. I highly recommend this movie to anyone. Absolutely fantastic.
