As a regular viewer of the smurfs, I was happy when we got a new series. The plot is okay since I understood that the story is mostly episodic, but the voice acting in the English dub could use a bit more work, the voices were alright, but some lines were executed poorly IMO, its as if their voices were strained while they speak (Poet, Chef, Greedy, and Jokey's VA were good tho!). There were voices who didn't quite match the characters. I'm not sure if its the lack of available voice actors, but still some of them didn't match.
So yeah, I'm pretty much neutral with this series, mixed feelings with the dubs. I'm just hoping that it'll get better over time since I really love watching the smurfs and there's some potential for it to be better :D.

This new version of The Smurfs is slightly better than the 1980s cartoon series, but only in animation quality. Chef and Greedy are separate characters once again, along with Clumsy and Dimwitty. Baby Smurf makes a surprise return to the series, which is true since the little rugrat has not been seen since the 1980s. Brainy Smurf is no longer as self centered and arrogant as you'd expect, and his ego has been downplayed (reverting to a bookworm Smurf). While Hanna-Barbera was instrumental in extreme character build-up and taking artistic liberties in their version, this series is more accurate to the original comics. For some reason, characters such as The Smurflings, Grandpa Smurf, Nanny Smurf and Smoogle are absent. The Smurfy Grove inhabitants, on the other hand, make a fine addition to the series for a younger generation. Johan and Peewit don't appear in this series, which is quite sad because they were the ones involved in the Smurfs introduction from the "Magic Flute" story.
The only downside is the use of gross-out jokes, which never happened in the 1980s series. The biggest offender is "Who Nose?", where Hefty squirts booger substance at the other Smurfs in the end. Another downside is the show focusing more on the Smurfs, Gargamel and Bigmouth, which can get pretty boring to watch.
The animation is great, the pacing is faster, the story concepts are good stuff, but the character portrayals and voice acting is pretty mixed. Aside from that, the people in Belgium did a good job keeping the spirit of the original comics alive and The Smurfs were able to regain their original mischievous personalities they had once lost. It is not a continuation of the 1980s series, but an offshoot of the original comics. Overall, I give this new series a smurfy 6 out of 10.

Ok so if I watch one or two episodes that's fine but 3 or 4 in a row it makes me bored, and considering Nicktoons in my country (UK) sometimes airs it for an hour it shows that it makes me bored after 2 episodes, voices and storylines are fine.
This show is for kids. So why so nostalgic adults are bashing it? I can understand that you are not feeling the way you were on 1980 when you watched the first gen cartoons, but you were a kid and I remember the show was as corny as the one we got today.
Some here are trying to be a poor's man version of Leonard Maltin. How sad.
My kid loves this show and he's 3 years old. I don't expect him to still love the show in 20 years.
The 3D animation is very adequate, dialogues are made for kids to be entertain and Gargamel is as dumb as he always was. Giving 1 star for this show is pure bad faith.

Although it's a little better than the truly dreadful live action smurf movies, this tv show reboot of the wonderful 1981-89 classic based on the 50's comic strip still has none of the charm nor style of the original, although it does have some funny moments, the rest is too predicable, self righteous and truly boring, the original smurfs had more bite it will, like the other reboots, smurfs was based on classics, what it doesn't have is the same level of charm as the original, papa smurfs just bores me
