Foil

Way too slow, meandering, takes a long time for the plot to reveal itself, it is not particularly about much of anything, does a poor job of conveying its main point. Billed as a comedy but rarely even attempts to be funny. At least in the end the main character gets to move in with his ex classmate, so yay for him I guess.

Overall you can tell this movie is amateurish and it is one thing if it doesn't get big names or extraordinary visuals but at least the script could have been sharp and engaging. In this movie it wasn't and I found myself bored.

Do not wasted your time with watching this one.

Quirky comedy definitely worth watching. Zach Green is funny, as well as the rest of the cast. While it is a low budget feature film, the characters and plot are engaging and as a viewer, I was always interested to see what came next. Beautiful desert scenery, and captures the quirks of strange people living in the desert, as well as a buddy road trip comedy. Independent film is a great place to find unusual stories and discover new actors, and this movie is a great example of that. Overall, viewers should check this movie out if they're looking for a laugh and an easy watch to entertain themselves.

Of course I had not heard about the 2023 sci-fi comedy titled "Foil" prior to sitting down and watching it here in 2024. I happened to stumble upon the movie by sheer random luck, and ofcourse opted to sit down and watch it, on account of it being a movie that I hadn't already seen.

Sure, I didn't know what I was in for, aside from what little I read from the movie's synopsis. So in a sense writers Zach Green and Devin O'Rourke had every opportunity to entertain and impress me with this movie.

"Foil" is definitely in a league of its own. The storyline in the movie is one of a kind, which makes it somewhat of a niché movie, and not something that will appeal to just everyone. But I think you should check it out, because it might just be something for you if you enjoy off-beat movies that aren't just mainstream run-of-the-mill movies.

I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, and that is actually something I do enjoy when I sit down and watch a movie. It is always nice to see new faces and talents on the screen. And I will say that the acting performances in "Foil" were actually fair.

Visually then you're not in for anything grand here. "Foil" is not a movie that is driven by crafty CGI effects, but then again, the movie didn't really need it in order to tell its story.

I found "Foil" to be an oddly enjoyable enough movie, though it is hardly a movie that I will ever return to watch a second time.

Well probably like a quite a few people, I stumbled across this movie by accident, but frankly speaking I'm glad I did, what a breath of fresh air it was to watch, great inventive dialogue and a unique plot, the actors gave all out first rate convictions in terms of their performances, you can really feel that the whole cast really did get behind this project and throw themselves into it headfirst, and it shows in the final outcome. You won't find any fancy cinematography or stand out sfx here, but what you will experience is dam good storytelling and an original concept, which is often exactly what's missing with big budget productions nowadays. Give this movie a try, go with it and enjoy the joy and passion that's contained within.

Yes it's verrry indie and low budget, yes it's a silly premise but I found the writing very funny and generally an amusing way to spend an hour and a half.... Two friends, Rex and Dexter from high school reunite and decide to go on a desert retreat (silent retreat or silent treatment?), each with their own idea of what it will be...One is an aspiring filmmaker seeking inspiration for his next movie idea, the other is an alcoholic slacker hunting the UFO that abducted him in his childhood. They meet a couple strange dudes out in the desert with a sinister agenda...and it gets super weird from there. I loved the character's rapport, the running gags, and laugh out loud lines especially when describing the filmmaker's one and only film of ill repute. Great performances all around. There's a surprisingly satisfying conclusion. And I wanted to see these two characters continue on another adventure.

There's craft in making a scrappy little film like this with little money and I immediately had to let them know there's an audience. Hope to see more from them!
