Archon Defender

I liked the idea of the movie and the graphics were interesting. I like animation and I've never seen that style before.It felt kind of amateurish but in a good way like it was one of his first films. I would have given it a 7 but the acting was so terrible that it distracted me from the movie:/He probably used his friends to help him out on this film because they were definitely not professional actors My advice to the actors is if you plan to do it for a living...take more classes and practice:/ I don't know what else to write about it. I know I don't like that IMDb makes you write 10 lines of text just to get this publish. 5 lines would be more then enough for most of these movies.

In all probability, reiddebster40, you saw the version with the original cast. I did too and I would agree with you; however, when the film was submitted to the Mississauga Independent Film Festival, the organisers insisted that Krupicz re-voice the film. My understanding is that he initially objected because he felt he would alienate some of his friends but eventually agreed. He re-voiced all of the characters in the film. I believe it won the award for Best Animated Feature at that festival. IMDb lists only one award but I am fairly certain that it has won awards in other festivals.

I saw the second version of the film and it is considerably better. I hope it gets wider distribution than it has had up to now because Krupicz is doing some fine work.

I also saw his second film, Origin: A Call to Minds in which he used many of the same actors as the second version of this one. He is showing some great progress.

I was fortunate enough to see the premier screening of this film in Toronto, and if I had to sum it up in one word, it would be WOW.

There are many ways an independent feature film can go wrong, and David Krupicz has single-handedly skirted them all. The coherent and well-delivered story line set in another world walks a fine line, never delving too far into an explanation of the universe in which the story takes place, while implicitly conveying an understanding of that universes technology, spirituality and culture through beautifully drawn images and plot relevant dialogue.

Initially, the Anime inspired broken time line left me concerned, about 20 minutes into the film I began to worry the story line was not going to come together. My fears were unfounded, unlike so many other works of "amature" fiction, this story came together in a big way. The intense detail and visual quality of the artwork was unrelenting, and the climax came together in a scene that was neither boringly predictable nor over-the-top inexplicable.

There is much more to be said, particularly with regards to the excellent musical score and the unique animation style, but this review has already grown too long. See this film for yourself, you will not be disappointed!
