Smosh used to produce some pretty decent comedy videos but lately they have lowered their target demographic. It's much easier to produce content for teens and preteens because they are less discerning and are more likely to simply follow a trend. Being held to a lower standard means you can produce more videos across a range of different channels, maximising views. More views means more money and making money seems to be Smosh's only goal these days.
Business is business, but once your credibility is lost, it is incredibly difficult to regain. Their videos are now crass, inappropriate and cringeworthy!

Smosh is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Everyday, I await for their uploads. Smosh, Smosh Pit, Smosh Games. I LOVE SMOSH
Sure, Smosh's humour isn't the wittiest. But it brings more originality to YouTube. Forget Fred or Phil. Phil is just another vlog (boring) and Fred just uses the squeaky voice to "try" and make his videos "funny" (awful) Smosh just puts the fun back into YouTube without bringing corporate mongers into the picture. They really make YouTube worth going to, especially when I see a new video from them. I always check YouTube every Friday (sometimes it takes 2 weeks for them to add a new video, though) but it's always worth the wait because I know I'll get a good laugh in after a hard day's work.
To the point, Smosh (along with Nigahiga) brings more originality to YouTube and that's why they're the greatest things on YouTube.

Smosh is the greatest thing to ever come to YouTube by far! They're freaking EXTREMELY hilarious! Words can't explain how funny every episode is and I'm no where NEAR exaggerating! I am 3 videos away from watching every single episode. Once you watch even half a episode you can't stop watching-or laughing your butt off! Another great thing about Smosh is they NEVER EVER (and I mean NEVER) make a fart or butt joke! One of the most hilarious things they do is they always make references to really famous animé, and I mean always! Not only do they make hilarious references to animé, but they also make TONS of references to movies!
The channel "Smosh" has been popular on YouTube for quite some time, and it has kept its popularity on YouTube for quite some time. With so many subscribers, there's obviously many people that love this channel, and obviously many people who hate it, but I fall somewhere in between, leaning more towards the side that loves it.
"Smosh" delivers a really wacky, surreal, and dark style of comedy, which sometimes is really hilarious and clever, but, at others, is just obnoxious. A lot of it is just people shouting for no apparent reason, and there's tons of pretty lame and stupid jokes. Sometimes it's just randomness being random for the sake of randomness, or references for the sake of being references so maybe the title can attract a lot of people who say "Hey, I've heard of this!" However, "Smosh" also provides a lot of pretty funny jokes here and there, including some self deprecation, witty satire, surprisingly dark humor (for such a large fanbase that it), and really bizarre and surreal comedic elements.
The production quality is also really good. The first "Smosh" videos didn't really have production quality, it was just two guys doing some wacky and funny stuff in front of a video camera, but, no that it has become so big in the YouTube community, the production that goes into their videos has gone way up. You could look at this both positively and negatively. On one side, the video's are much more well made, but, on the other side, it starts to miss some of its more homemade-ness, and begins to feel more like some kind of corporate product rather than something made for fun.
Overall, "Smosh" has its positive elements and negative elements, forcing some people to hate it and others to love it. I'd probably recommend you check out some of their videos if you haven't already. If you love them, I'll understand, and, if you hate them, I'll understand.
