Goodnight, Light

I thought it had good things going for it, but I think it just missed the mark of being a good film. I also wouldn't say it was supernatural horror, it was more slasher horror. A good reason for a slasher horror to occur though.

There was way too much of the teen/young adult drama. Like some of it was useful to forward the plot, but better editing would have gone a long way. It took me a while to see how certain things were meant to be tied together.

The film quality and acting was decent enough for the most part. Some of the side actors weren't great. I did think the set up was a good one, it just needed presenting that little bit better.

It's hard to be terrified while watching a horror movie and you have no idea what is going on. There too many (9) main characters in this movie, with an complex web of inter-relationships, never fully explained. So whenever something happens you have to ask why did they do that? Also, is one of the characters supposed to be a ghost? I'm still not sure. I assume that the director had some idea what was supposed to be going on but everything got messed up in editing when key explanatory scenes were cut. There also are many continuity errors which makes the confusion even worse. The result is a total mess and when the "slasher" action occurs, it's very hard to be horrified. What just happened and why? And was that real, imagined, or was the killer a ghost? Like I said. It's a mess. It's also very boring unless you want to try to understand post-adolescent romantic and mean girl behaviors. Also, these are supposed to be graduating college seniors but most of them look like they are closer to 30 in age.

It's hard to say what's worse here: the acting, the writing, or the editing. They are all atrocious. There is zero chance that anyone in this zero budget mess is a professional actor so I'd have to say the writing is the real stinker. I have watched a lot of ultra low budget films that manage to to be interesting and even entertaining. This one manages to be dull, lifeless, amateurish, and downright insulting to one's intelligence. I will make a point to remember the names of those responsible for this garbage to ensure that I never waste another moment of my life watching any other alleged films they make.

After reading some of the other reviews, I was hesitant to watch this film. So glad that I ignored the reviews. This movie was good...and close to being great. This movie, Goodnight Light, reminds me of why I love independent films. It's obviously not Hollywood production quality, but not the same Hollywood crap they dish out either. This story does answer all of the questions raised while watching. You have to watch until the end to get those answers. PAUSE the movie if you get get up for a snack or to go to the bathroom. It's one of those films that if you miss something said, or shown, you'll be confused. Everything is connected. This film has a great premise for a revenge story.
