I have no idea who commissioned this, but this documentary is an embarrassment to the BBC brand. What we are watching is a disjointed collage of recycled footage (very likely ripped from other documentaries) tied together with a narrative so loosely connected to "rivers" that it's almost insulting.
For example, the segment titled Danube starts on the Bernina Glacier, meanders to the Una River, and so on and so forth. Yes, technically all that water eventually flows into the Danube, but by that logic, a documentary about my kitchen sink could also be titled The Danube.
Maybe I would understand this kind of slapdash documentary if we were still under Covid lockdown restrictions - but it feels like it was cobbled together by a Covid compliance officer with access to the BBC archives and zero knowledge of the subject matter.
Despite some stunning visuals, this is an absolute 1/10. Slapping the BBC logo on it does not magically make it quality content.
