The Wrath Of Becky is a real treat for those who enjoys stories about revenge. As for me (someone who worships I Spit On Your Grave), this movie is a really delicious meal for my mind. Just like the first movie (Becky), this movie contains an insane amount of gore. So if you can't stomach it, don't watch this movie. Consider this a friendly warning. Now, on to the story! Like the first movie, this one is about Becky getting even with the people who wronged her. I won't tell you specifically what the wrongdoings are, but it's bad. Just like in the first movie. Real bad. And Becky is angry now, so get ready to see some blood spilled. Or... splattered, to be precise.
One-sentence summary: Two years after the events of the first film, Becky finds herself at the center of a small-town insurrection with far-reaching implications.
In all honesty, it never crossed my mind that Becky (2020) would get a sequel, so it took me by complete surprise when I saw that The Wrath of Becky was playing at my local theater. The story is a standard mishmash of previously successful movies. Think John Wick meets Home Alone. Nevertheless, the filmmakers nailed the tone and style, balancing the lighthearted fun and brutal violence nicely. The script could've been a tad tighter, but I admire how they continue to offer longtime comedic actors an opportunity to demonstrate their range. Even if Seann William Scott doesn't quite match Kevin James' performance from the first film, he is still one of the biggest reasons to watch the sequel. I'm not going to tell you to move this to the top of your watchlist, but The Wrath of Becky is a fun way to kill 90 minutes.

Lulu Wilson returns as Becky in this sequel, now three years older and on the run from foster care placements. While on the run, she befriends a kindly old woman who doesn't ask her a lot of questions and allows her to stay in her countryside home. However, there is yet another home invasion, once again by white supremacists, who make the mistake of killing her elderly benefactor. That's when Becky goes full Charles Bronson DEATH WISH on these racist dirtbags at their own compound, conducting a fun and bloody game of cat and mouse. As with the first film, this one casts a comedian in the lead villain role, so instead of Kevin James you get Sean "AMERICAN PIE" William Scott as the main villain. This sequel features a new writer and director who get the tone right this time, leaning more into the dark humor of a cute blond teen girl wreaking bloody havoc on reprehensible villains, which the first film did not do enough of. Lulu Wilson, as in the first film, is terrific as Becky. Although this sequel is more cartoony than the first, Wilson again brings real emotion to the part than you'd expect. For fans of these sorts of over-the-top gore fests (myself included), there's enough action, carnage, and twisted humor to make THE WRATH OF BECKY a must-see.
I had actually never even heard about "The Wrath of Becky" prior to stumbling upon the movie by random chance. And with it being a movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I opted to sit down and see what directors Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote had to offer.
The storyline in "The Wrath of Becky" was a rather straightforward storyline, but also a very generic storyline. If you have seen any type of 'revenge' movie, then you know what you get here. The plot is stupidly simply; some guys hurt a woman close to Becky and steal her dog, and then Becky sets out to righten things and get her dog back.
Gee, a stolen dog, now where have we possibly seen that before? John, you want to chime in here?
Writers Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote played it very safe when they wrote the script, because "The Wrath of Becky" utilizes the standard tropes of a revenge movie and doesn't deviate from that blueprint. And that makes the movie a rather predictable one.
However, I will say that "The Wrath of Becky" was watchable for the generic revenge movie that it was, for better or worse. But it most definitely didn't make for a particularly memorable movie experience. Nor is it a movie that has sufficient contents to the storyline to support more than just a single viewing.
What worked out well in favor of the movie was the cast ensemble. They had a good cast ensemble with some interesting choices of actors and actresses. I wasn't familiar with leading actress Lulu Wilson, but she performed well enough, taking into consideration the limitations imposed by a generic script. I haven't seen Seann William Scott in a movie for a very long time, so it was nice to see him on the screen again. And it was also nice to see Courtney Gains on the screen.
My rating of "The Wrath of Becky" lands on a bland five out of ten stars.

A John Wick style slasher is something I didn't know I wanted to watch. This movie was full of fun over the top slasher moments with an action thriller back-drop.
I do think the writing lacked a bit, but I also think great writing isn't needed in a film like this.
Seann William Scott was brilliant and I loved seeing him in a different role than what I'm used to.
This movie is easy to watch and lives up to its expectation as a non-serious, fun, action-thriller.
Unfortuantely the villians are forgettable and for the future of these films I can see it needing to be more and more ridiculous and fun for it to stay relevant.
But that's just IMO. (:

- QuizMatt Angel and Suzanne Coote were approached to write and direct a sequel to Becky in December 2021 by producer J.D. Lifshitz. Given no further direction and only three weeks to write the script, Angel watched Kill Bill for guidance in the film's tone and characters. Lulu Wilson worked closely with the filmmakers to soften the edges of Becky. Having two years passed between films, Wilson hoped to see a more mature iteration of the character.
- BlooperWhen Daryl realizes that the pin had been pulled from the grenade in Anthony's mouth, he quickly slams the door shut but watches the explosion through the widow in the door. If Daryl really had as much time in the military he would have known that neither the door nor the window would provide enough protection against a fragmentation grenade at such close range and he would have instead taken cover behind a wall.
