El Toro

Hard to believe I'm the first to write a review about this little Canadian gem. A really good short series set in 1960s Winnipeg francophone community, mixing family drama with a wide range of social themes of that era, with the added twist of daily life of Francophones in St-Boniface. The whole series, dramatic and full of humour, is held together by a fantastic cast of actors that convincingly portray inner conflicts and shared fate. I suspect many are local actors, which helps give the series an air of authenticity. This is a low budget affair but there's great use of various tricks to add to real settings to make it all gel. The series is very very charming and deals with real subjects. It is at times truly emotional. Well done to all on this piece of Canadiana. My wife (a prairie girl) and I (a Québécois) genuinely enjoyed it.
