Cidadão Silva

A conflicted and tormented young man (Jeffchander Lucas) has had enough of life and he decides to end it all for good. Suicide feels like the only option and with gun in hand he's one step away from doing it. Up until the appearance of two female creatures who give him encouraging words but they differ in the meaning with one woman being very supportive and helpful while the other seems to encourage him with the dying act (it's quite subtle the way she uses words but it's easy to see she means trouble).

"Cidadão Silva" ("Citizen Silva") is a very dramatic story that deals with the voices of conscience in our heads but played with some physicallity, a clear device so audiences can understand what's going on with this character rather than having a Shakesperean monologue. It's fine, well-acted but there isn't much to be seen here, except for the plot twist kind of ending - of which you have to pay some attention to find out which girl won the battle.

So, here's my word of encouragement to everyone involved in the Nós do Cinema, which revealed plenty of young actors to the Brazilian arts and we are expecting plenty of things from you in the years to come (if still active). 7/10.
