Blades of grass gave me hope that the movie industry isn't dead. Michael Banks, the young director of this film, used every inch of his set and script to convey his message. The use of multiple vignettes in the same hotel room to tell a full story was incredible. The film makes you feel as though you are the hotel room and not the character, which is so refreshing.
The way the film all comes together in the end, after watching all these radically different characters have radically different experiences in the same room, it gives you a feeling of unease. However, at the same time you can sort of connect to each character. Honestly I felt like I connected to all the flaws in each character versus the traditional "I want to relate to the hero/main character" feeling you get from watching most films these days
All in all for a film with such a low budget, I was blown away. I'm very much looking forward to Michael Banks' next work!

The actors are wooden amateurs.... the setting is all in one boring hotel room. The script is so boring... all 5 scripts are horribly boring... they are dull... it's like some kind of high school play ... I think it's about boring writers who write boring stories.... boring authors and the people in their hotel room that tell them their stories are boring... so it's like a dream within a dream within a dream of stupid dialogue between dull actors who are just out of their 5th drama class. Hard to watch. I had to dump it after 40 minutes.
I knew nothing about this movie before some friends invited me to a viewing, so I said, "What the hell, why not?" A couple of beers, a movie, and some bars after...say less. Honestly, I was just looking for a chill night out, and this sounded like a solid plan.
I purposely went in blind and really enjoyed it! I was most impressed with the quality of the production and the writing. You could tell a lot of thought went into it. At times, there was a lot going on, but somehow it all came together. Warning:there are some pretty intense scenes and moments that definitely played with my emotions. I found myself holding my breath more than once.
I ended up talking to Michael (or is it Mike? The director) outside in the hallway afterward. Super cool guy. I wish I could've chatted with him more, but it looked like he had friends visiting or something, so I didn't want to interrupt too much.
My friends and I found ourselves continuing to talk about the movie as the night went on, which is always a good sign, in my opinion. It definitely stuck with us. I'm glad I went.

The good reviews have to be fake. This movie was really bad. The acting was horrible. I'm not even sure what it was about. The only good thing about it was when it ended when I say don't waste your time please don't waste your time. You might think it gets better it doesn't. I don't know how people thought this was going to be a good film. Sorry to the people that did this movie.
Michael J. Banks' directorial debut, Blades of Grass, is a perfect example of how a compelling film can still be crafted on a small budget. It's a beautifully concise character study that left everyone I watched with full of theories and opinions long after the credits rolled. Each character is thoughtfully written, and their stories feel deeply human. The non-linear storytelling is a refreshing choice, and the way early details come full circle is incredibly satisfying.
I especially enjoyed the performances of Douglas Moore and Alexandra Recknagel. Their scene left me feeling uneasy, but wanting so much more. Lastly, Michael Coppola's turn as the writer serves as a real anchor, adding a sense of credibility to the entire film. Blades of Grass is a thoughtfully made, genuinely engaging watch, and I can't wait to see what Michael J. Banks does next.

Nobody: Sit down! Young lady, I don't want to have to repeat myself because if I repeat myself, I will yell. And if I yell, that man out there is going to come in here. And if that happens, then I'm going to shoot you in the head and bash your skull in with this pistol until he does the same to me. Now sit.
