Juzina

JUZina is a truly refreshing addition to the Croatian film scene. This movie deserves to be watched at least twice because it's so different from any other domestic film that during my first viewing, I was still getting used to all the novelties it brings.

First, I didn't expect a film that doesn't deal with the usual wartime themes. Second, it's an absolute breath of fresh air in terms of its cast. Most of the actors were unfamiliar to me, and I'm grateful for that because this "new" ensemble is brilliant-every character feels like a genuine refreshment. I thoroughly enjoyed each actor's performance, the fresh approach to everyday themes, and the fantastic, unusual, and unexpected scenes that left me momentarily puzzled before I realized just how challenging it must be to portray these seemingly simple life moments and seemingly ordinary people from our daily lives.

Huge praise to all the actors, especially Donat Zeko in the role of Toma, who absolutely carries this film with his presence. Snjezana Sinovcic shines as Anka, Nika Petrovic is excellent, and Stipe Jelaska is outstanding.

Furthermore, the music is perfectly chosen, enhancing the semi-crazy yet everyday Split atmosphere. This film is definitely a must-watch, and I hope the young director, Ante Marin, gets many more opportunities to surprise and delight us again!
