Inside Barlinnie

Barlinnie is Scotland's most notorious prison, soon set to close. This old-fashioned documentary tells its story, as well as giving us a view of what life is currently like inside. The first aspect is intriguing though patchy; I can't be the only person who wanted to know more about 'Slasher' Gallagher, the governor who allegedly gave as good as he got when dealing with violent prisoners. The latter aspect is notably less intimate than the contemporary fly-on-the-wall style we are now all accustomed to. In spite of these limitations, there are still some interesting stories here, and food for thought about how we as a society deal with those we feel the need to constrain.
