This is definitely not a good movie, yes it has funny moments but it's so bland it gets frustrating to watch. The plot is very thin, this kind of thing has been seen thousands of times before. And the pacing, the pacing is awful. The worst example of this is near the beginning, when Mario's family teases Mario and he goes to his room sad, it tries to set up an emotional moment but NOPE, because this movie can't risk a second of boredom we have to move along to the next plot point immediately, Mario and Luigi try to fix a pipe and the plot of the movie starts, and this was fine enough, it has funny moments. Lumalee is absolutely hilarious, but it's mostly just bright colors to entertaining kids, and yes, it will do a great job at entertaining kids. But if you're looking for a good movie, there are so many better options.

There is absolutely no reason for this to have a higher rating than the original movie on imdb. This has objectively worse animation than the 2004 movie. Some people say "it's hard work animating", it wasn't any easier for people making the original movie. Someone could make the argument "the people who worked on this have less animating experience so of course it will be worse" but people just be rating content on an objective scale, and not based on the skill level of who made it. There's only one scene where the animation is ALMOST as good as the movie from 20 years ago, but other than that the animation is way worse. People have to stop congratulating the writing team behind this for making animation that has been easy to replicate and surpass for decades.
