I was afraid that Chaos Theory wouldn't be as good as Camp Cretaceous. It turns out I had nothing to worry about. Chaos Theory is a top-notch animated series. It's seriously emotional. I've come to love all of the characters. I'm more similar to some than others, but I can see a piece of myself in all of them. When each of them was going through something in this series, I could really feel it right along with them. Some episodes even made me cry. The characters are so well-developed and multi-dimensional. The series focuses on trauma, PTSD, grief, and relationship conflict (family, romantic, and platonic). I'm also impressed by how much storytelling is accomplished in episodes that are under 25 minutes. The animation is excellent. There is a lot of suspense, action, danger, fear, and interpersonal tension. You will never be bored, there's so much in here. I love seeing the characters as adults. You can still see the younger camper in each of them, but they've all been deeply affected by their experiences and are haunted by them. The series portrays this very well. I'm sad that it's over. Despite that it's rated TV-7, I think it would be best appreciated by teens and up because some of the themes, especially the ones dealing with PTSD and relationships, would likely be above a younger child's understanding. The only thing I felt could have been better is that the end didn't resolve some of the loose ends - these ends were made out to be pretty important earlier in the series, so I thought that was weird. But other than that, I loved it.
For some reason I avoided seeing this for years thinking I wouldn't like it. I finally decided to try it, and I'm glad I did. It wasn't what I was expecting. There's a great cast of characters, and while they all have their annoying traits, they're also relatable. It has a good message that focuses on prejudice and on not giving up on what you believe in. I think what's really important is that it shows that even well-meaning people can have unconscious prejudice or bias they didn't realize they had. The movie is also fun, fast-paced, and has good humor. I'd watch it again.
I had low expectations for this since more times than not, sequels just aren't that good. But I really liked this. The characters are great. The story was fun to watch, and there was plenty of action, suspense, danger, and tense moments. There was also plenty of humor that I found funny even as an adult. There are also a bunch of Easter eggs that were fun to see - I loved the Ratatouille one especially. The messages are also good - it focuses on prejudice as well as relationships. I think I actually liked this a little better than the first one. If you're looking for a fun hour and a half with a positive message, go see this!
