Midway through the film, I started thinking "this is the movie Eddington wanted to be." It just has a lot more depth than Eddington and goes deeper into human nature. We've not watching Bergman, but Paul Thomas Anderson is consistent in presenting good stories and this is no exception. It's rollicking with a bit of humor thrown in, but I thought it did a good job staking out the boundaries and watching the characters move on parallel paths to the climax. I have no idea what the awards season will bring, but the movie itself, Anderson, Penn, DiCaprio, Del Toro, and Infiniti will likely be on voters' minds.
I subtracted one star due to some of the plot jumps that disrupted the continuity a bit, but that is quibbling.

Great show with a great feel. Reminded me of the 1980s film Streets of Fire in its ambience. Abigail Spencer absolutely shines and it would have been interesting to see what the story arc for her character would have been if.the series had continued. Supporting.cast and subplots were.also stellar and there was a lot of ground that could have been covered in subsequent seasons. I've never run a studio or a broadcasst/streaming network, so I have no idea what the calculus behind the decision not to renew Reprisal for at least one more season might have been. All I can say is that a very interesting revenge story with a unique style didn't get to finish its run on a high note.
PS--W. Earl Brown is a national treasure that we need to see featured more often.

Just an absolutely phenomenal job from the cast, especially Teresa Palmer and Miranda Otto. Otto is especially chilling in her portrayal of her character at every level of the character's development. She's a marvelous actress who deserves more acclaim. Palmer also shines in a difficult role as a person who has been extremely damaged from her youth in the Kindred cult. Guy Pearce (superb in everything he does) does a great job in a secondary role that is key to the story. Only downside for me is that the story unfolds in multiple timelines and it can be difficult to detect when the timelines change Multiple themes are at play throughout the story and most of them come through without being heavy-handed.
