The Fantastic Four: First Steps is an entertaining but predictable ride. The acting is good, and I love the retro look of the world. I think the casting was spot on as well.
It falters in certain places that aren't new to the genre. I must say, the "end of the world" trope has gotten old in superhero movies. We all know that everyone will be fine. The stakes are too unrealistic if you know what I'm trying to say. There were plot points that you could see from a mile away as well.
Overall, it was fun time at the movies.

This is how superhero movies should be done. James Gunn did very well in his addition of Superman. David Coronswet was great, he's just as I imagine Superman to be. I love that they gave him weakness to rise above.
The movie did feel a bit crowded, but I didn't think it was as much of an issue as others thought.
The theme of the movie is great. It teaches us to rise above our weaknesses. Kal-El stands for all of this.
The rest of the cast was also good. The effects are good but nothing special. I felt like it was emotional when it needed to be and had levity at others.
Great job James Gunn and co.

Well, Dreamworks' live-action remake debut is here, and it has all the heart and theme of the original. I was apprehensive when this was first announced because it's one of my all time favorite movies. I was starting to get sick of new live-action cash grabs. This doesn't feel like that.
What's not to like here? The themes and story are all intact, and it still has the heart that captured audiences back in 2010.
Dean Deblois comes back to direct, and he doesn't fix what isn't broken.
The effects and cinematography are astoundingly good. Especially the dragons! Toothless looks just as cute and majestic as he did in the original.
The acting was mostly great as well! Gerard Butler was the best, and I must give credit to Mason Thames and Nico Parker as well. They gave solid performances. Nothing can beat Jay Baruchel as Hiccup though.
This version has a few added scenes that were great at best and good at worst. No complaints there. Everything else was basically scene for scene, with minor differences.
Great job, Dreamworks!
