List of Documentaries I feel accurately help you to create your own ideas about the society we live in; and how we'd gotten here.

by matthewrolsen-20-113479 • Created 6 years ago • Modified 1 month ago
"Pay no attention to the little man behind the curtain"......I must, in the spirit of honestly, b/c of my willingness to change my belief about something in the light of credible and after seemingly unbiased discourse, and after having been one to rarely have done so in the earlier decades of my life.

I don't believe there is any absolute truth to define any event that involves societies, countries, events, and I don't put much faith into anyone who tries to suggest otherwise.

I've learned, over a great deal of time, effort, and a lot of struggle to slowly let my ego take a rear seat, and I feel as though my ego had been one of the strongest forces between my beliefs and the degree of accuracy/truthfullness they were based on. Therefore, I merely want to try to share the exhaustive list of documentaries I've appreciated at one time or another.

Not all of them are unbiased, nor likely very much more than the directors own bias ideas about some topic. However, that is for you to decide. The bias and oversimplified documentaries have just as much to learn from as those which I'd go out on a limb and say do a succint job in bringing it together; but always only a part of it. Never the whole thing.

I know no more nor less than any of you and simply hope you enjoy any of the films included below. I will try to get around to deleting the doubles, non-docs, and trash as I can.

    1. Rush to War

    20041h 1mNot Rated
    6.8 (111)
In today's post-9/11 world, director Robert Taicher searches for the rationale behind the war in Iraq, exploring the failed policies of several administrations in an expertly crafted full-length documentary. What he presents is a raw, provocative look into America's "War on Terror" and its effect on our society, our credibility, and most importantly, our security. As America fights the wrong war at the wrong time, comes a riveting eye-opener. The right film at the right time.

    5. Slavoj Zizek: The Reality of the Virtual

    20041h 11m
    7.4 (436)
In this tour de force filmed lecture, Slavoj Zizek lucidly and compellingly reflects on belief - which takes him from Father Christmas to democracy - and on the various forms that belief takes, drawing on Lacanian categories of thought. In a radical dismissal of todays so called post-political era, he mobilizes the paradox of universal truth urging us to dare to enact the impossible. It is a characteristic virtuoso performance, moving promiscuously from subject to subject but keeping the larger argument in view. Based at Ljubliana University, Slavoj Zizek's main body of work includes Welcome to the Desert of the Real and, most recently, The Puppet and the Dwarf: The Perverse Core of Christianity.

    20. Peaceable Kingdom

    20041h 10m
    8.3 (219)
Peaceable Kingdom: The Journey Home explores the powerful struggle of conscience experienced by several people from traditional farming backgrounds who come to question the basic assumptions of their way of life. A riveting story of transformation and healing, the documentary portrays the farmers' sometimes amazing connections with the animals under their care, while also providing insight into the complex web of social, psychological and economic forces that have led to their inner conflict. Interwoven with the farmers' stories is the dramatic animal rescue work of a newly-trained humane police officer whose sense of justice puts her at odds with the law she is charged to uphold. With strikingly honest interviews and rare footage demonstrating the emotional lives and intense family bonds of animals most often viewed as living commodities, this groundbreaking documentary shatters stereotypical notions of farmers, farm life, and perhaps most surprisingly, farm animals themselves.

Eleven parables relay histories of settlement, removal, technological breakthrough, violence, messianism and resistance, all occurring somewhere in the state of Illinois. But the state is a structural ruse, and its histories are allegories that ask what belief might teach us about nationhood. In our desire to understand the inscrutable, whom do we end up blaming or endorsing?
