  • Ayesha Jhulka, Akshay Kumar, Deepak Tijori, and Sabeeha in Khiladi (1992)

    1. Khiladi

    19922h 37mNot Rated
    7.1 (8.8K)
Two friends wage bets for money and fun. There comes a time where they race to win the biggest bet, for they know that their lives depend on it.
DirectorsAbbas Alibhai BurmawallaMastan Alibhai BurmawallaStarsAkshay KumarAyesha JhulkaDeepak Tijori
This film was literally Akshay's first hit. The film presented Akshay's Thai Boxing style action with a good story. This was also one of Abbas Mustan's best action thrillers from the 1990s period.
  • Akshay Kumar in Mr. Bond (1992)

    2. Mr. Bond

    19922h 7mNot Rated
    3.4 (726)
Mr. Bond is an honest, dedicated and capable police officer in Bombay's police force. He faces the toughest case of a lifetime when he must rescue some small children abducted and held as hostages by the underworld don Dragon.
DirectorRaj N. SippyStarsAkshay KumarSheeba AgarwalSaathi Ganguly
Though Mr. Bond was a critical and commercial failure, it presented some of the most stylish action sequences. For the 1990s, the film had fantastic action. However, if you remove action from this film, it is a terrible B Grade movie with no substance. This was the time when Akshay Kumar wasn't in form(this film released before Khiladi).
  • Ashwini Bhave, Mamta Kulkarni, and Akshay Kumar in Ashaant (1993)

    3. Ashaant

    19932h 21mNot Rated
    4.5 (587)
The ACP of Mumbai police joins forces with the Bangalore police department to stop a terrorist from causing havoc in the country.
    DirectorKeshu RamsayStarsAkshay KumarVishnuvardhanAshwini Bhave
One of Akshay's most underrated action films. The movie had several good scenes and the action scenes were ahead of it's times. The film was also well handled despite some melodrama like Pankaj Dheer's death scene and Akshay's crying in the hospital which was irritating. The action scene at the end seems to be inspired from a Jackie Chan movie but it was new type of action sequence for Bollywood. Despite being a commercial failure, Ashaant was one of Akshay's best action movies from the early 90s.
  • Ayesha Jhulka, Mamta Kulkarni, Akshay Kumar, and Suniel Shetty in Waqt Hamara Hai (1993)

    4. Waqt Hamara Hai

    19932h 28mNot Rated
    5.9 (1.8K)
Two prankster best friends gets unwittingly involved in a terrorist plot and tries their best to save the country.
    DirectorBharat RangacharyStarsAkshay KumarSuniel ShettyAyesha Jhulka
The film was Akshay's only hit in 1993 when all his other releases failed to make a mark at the box office. Waqt Hamara Hai was the first time when Akshay Kumar teamed up with Sunil Shetty. Their chemistry was superb and they even fought against each other in some of the action scenes(typical college rivalry). However, the action scenes towards the end may seem a bit unrealistic but they are well choreographed.
  • Akshay Kumar, Madhoo, and Amrish Puri in Elaan (1994)

    5. Elaan

    19942h 26mNot Rated
    5.1 (983)
When ACP Ramakant's elder son is killed, his attempts to find justice the legal way meet little success. His younger son, Vishal, decides to take the law into his own hands.
    DirectorGuddu DhanoaStarsAkshay KumarAmrish PuriMadhoo
Another typical action movie which turned out to be a hit. This is Akshay's first film where he demonstrates more of his round kicks. Earlier, he would do 1 or 2 round kicks per action scene. The story is well handled and Amrish Puri delivers a fantastic performance. I disagree with some IMDB users calling Akshay's performance a guest role with action. He is a part of the story, he does drama and comedy. Therefore, he is a main character, not a guest character who fights(like Sunil Shetty in Surakshaa).
  • Akshay Kumar, Naseeruddin Shah, Suniel Shetty, and Raveena Tandon in Mohra (1994)

    6. Mohra

    19942h 57m
    7.0 (9K)
A journalist comes to the aid of a murderer with a life sentence when she makes an appeal in court and although he is given his freedom, they soon discover that there is a grim reason behind his release.
    DirectorRajiv RaiStarsAkshay KumarSuniel ShettyRaveena Tandon
Akshay's Kumar first blockbuster hit in which he teams up with Sunil Shetty after the successful Waqt Hamara Hai from 1993. The film has Akshay play a tough cop and Akshay successfully demonstrates his action. Whether it's the round kicks or the quick punches, Akshay does a brilliant job. Sunil Shetty supports well and Naseer too does a good job.
  • Suhaag (1994)

    7. Suhaag

    19942h 25mNot Rated
    5.8 (2.1K)
Collegian Ajay Sharma was born on 2 April 1968 and lives in Bombay with his widowed mom Asha. He is friendly with fellow-collegian Raj Sinha, from a wealthy family. Ajay often gets beaten up by goons and Raj gets beaten up by his girlfriend Madhu. After they graduate from college, Raj's maternal uncle asks Ajay to bring his birth certificate so he can make his passport and find work for him in a department store in Canada. Ajay goes home to look for his birth certificate, but is unable to locate it. His mother makes a show of helping him, but instead tears a document and throws it away. Ajay puts the document together and finds out that his real name is Ajay Malhotra and that his father, Dr. Ravi Malhotra, is still alive, serving a life sentence in prison for killing a patient and stealing the organs from the body. Ajay questions his mother and finds out that his dad was framed by the hospital owner, Rai Bahadur. He and Asha meet Ravi in prison and swear to avenge his humiliation. He and Raj then set out to collect evidence, unaware that Raj's dad, Dr. Sinha, was himself involved in Ravi's false conviction and will not hesitate in joining forces with Rai Bahadur to eliminate all possible evidence, and if necessary kill both Ajay and Asha.
    DirectorKuku KohliStarsAjay DevgnAkshay KumarKarisma Kapoor
Another successful action film from 1994. This is the first time Akshay Kumar does a major comic role but he succeeds partially as he wasn't good in comedy till Hera Pheri(2000) happened. However, the second half of the film shows his action and once again he rocks.
  • Ayesha Jhulka and Akshay Kumar in Jai Kishen (1994)

    8. Jai Kishen

    19942h 9mNot Rated
    4.7 (722)
Twins Jai and Kishen reunite together to fight against the perpetrators who killed their father and had them separated.
    DirectorSunil AgnihotriStarsAkshay KumarAyesha JhulkaChandni
Akshay's first double role action movie which follows the Manmohan Desai theme of long lost brothers. The film is a typical commercial movie which flopped. However, the action was simply superb. Akshay as the blind Jai who mastered himself in self defense is superb. The way he uses a sword hidden in his walking stick is superb. This should be an inspiration for blind people(every individual with a weakness like blindness can defend himself).
  • Shakti Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar, Raageshwari, and Shilpa Shetty Kundra in Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994)

    9. Main Khiladi Tu Anari

    19942h 55m
    6.5 (6.8K)
A Bombay police officer seeks revenge when his brother is killed by a powerful underworld figure. Things get complicated when a matinee movie idol begins to shadow the policeman so he can research a movie role.
DirectorSameer MalkanStarsAkshay KumarSaif Ali KhanShilpa Shetty Kundra
After the superhit romantic comedy Yeh Dillagi(1994), Akshay and Saif reunited with superhit action comedy, Main Khiladi Tu Anari(1994). The film presents Akshay in the role of a tough cop(which he had done in his last release Mohra). The action scenes once again are superb with Akshay uses his hands more than his legs. The best part is that there aren't any cheesy stunts in the film. Everything is raw and natural. Saif also entertains in a comic role.
  • Mohan Joshi, Akshay Kumar, and Madhoo in Zaalim (1994)

    10. Zaalim

    19942h 11mNot Rated
    4.4 (646)
Judge Somnath lives with his wife, three sons, and a daughter. Two of his sons, Vikram and Mohan are married, while his daughter, Kaamna, and youngest son, Ravi, are of marriageable age. Somnath had wanted his sons to be a doctor, police officer, and a Judge. While Vikram is a surgeon, Mohan's a Police Inspector, & Ravi is now studying law and on his way to become a lawyer and then a Judge like his dad. This family does have a dark secret. Ravi is prone to losing his temper, so much so that he gets out of control, and has killed someone in his childhood. When Kaamna gets raped, the family are reluctant to tell Ravi. When they do they do convince him to control himself, while Mohan gets an arrest warrant for Vinod, Kaamna's molester. Things do not go smoothly in court as the matter is put off for several months and then Somnath and Kaamna are killed in a bomb explosion. Now Mohan and Vikram handcuff Ravi on their balcony while they finalize the funeral arrangements, and when they return Ravi is no longer there. And then the killings begin...
    DirectorSikander BhartiStarsAkshay KumarMadhooVishnuvardhan
Another Akshay Kumar film from late 1994 which flopped. However, the action scenes were brilliant. The film was rated A because there was a lot of violence. There are barely any round kicks and there is more normal jump kicks and punches. However, the rock climbing scene, the scene where Akshay climbs the elevator shaft, and the scene where Akshay throws a heavy rock on the villain's lower body(to cripple him) are all brilliantly choreographed. There is also karate and action shown in the ring which was earlier shown in classic films like Rocky.
  • Sabse Bada Khiladi (1995)

    11. Sabse Bada Khiladi

    19952h 42mNot Rated
    5.9 (4.8K)
A police officer impersonates his murdered twin brother in order to bring his killers to justice.
    DirectorUmesh MehraStarsAkshay KumarMamta KulkarniMohnish Behl
The film revived Akshay's flagging career from late 1994 till early 1995 when he gave a streak of 4-5 flops. This is also one of Akshay's films which has a twisted story and the story won some critical acclaim. Although some scenes are unnatural like how Akshay could be in 2 places at once(playing Vijay and Lallu in different cities). However the action scenes are brilliant. The usual kicking and punching is there but the end stunts are brilliant. Akshay dodges the villains car and jumps over some small jets, these kinds of new stunts for well handled Bollywood action films are good.
  • Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi (1996)

    12. Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi

    19962h 42mNot Rated
    6.0 (6.5K)
When an army man's brother goes missing in U.S., he goes looking for him and ingratiates himself with a lady gangster who is involved in illegal wrestling.
    DirectorUmesh MehraStarsAkshay KumarRekhaRaveena Tandon
A superhit action film shot outside India, the film also set the box office on fire. Akshay's fight with the undertaker, the action scenes with the numb chucks in the climax scenes, the action scene in the billiard ball room, and the final action scene with the hovercraft was simply superb.
  • Karisma Kapoor, Sonali Bendre, Akshay Kumar, and Suniel Shetty in Sapoot (1996)

    13. Sapoot

    19962h 38mNot Rated
    5.2 (1.3K)
When a gangster is killed by his rivals, his two sons vow revenge.
DirectorJagdish A. SharmaStarsAkshay KumarSuniel ShettyKarisma Kapoor
Sapoot released in 1996 and it was a Godfather type movie. The film was an above average at the box office. However, the film should've deserved a hit verdict. Once again, the action was mind blowing. Akshay and Sunil really did some good action films in the 90s. Despite the trash Hum Hain Bemisaal(1994), their combination was pretty good. In this film, Akshay Kumar did a pole vault scene where he jumped from a roof and landed in a helicopter(this stunt was superb).
  • Akshay Kumar and Shilpa Shetty Kundra in Insaaf: The Final Justice (1997)

    14. Insaaf: The Final Justice

    19972h 35mNot Rated
    3.8 (949)
Vikram is a honest police inspector on the trail of Chimanbhai, little knowing that people behind the crimes are none other than politicians who will do anything to protect the criminals.
DirectorDayal NihalaniStarsAkshay KumarShilpa Shetty KundraParesh Rawal
Though a commercial failure, Insaaf had the superhit song Baarana De and Akshay's action scenes which were quite appealing. The action scenes aren't as good as the ones from Mohra or Ashaant. However, the stunts are decent. The best stunt was the one where Akshay was on a tree and he stealth attacked a guard on a moving jeep.
  • Akshay Kumar in Daava (1997)

    15. Daava

    19972h 25m
    4.1 (650)
Underworld thugs kill one of three brothers, in order to create a rift between the remaining two.
    DirectorSunil AgnihotriStarsNaseeruddin ShahAkshay KumarRaveena Tandon
Similar to Insaaf, Daava was another commercial failure from 1997 when Akshay played the typical frustrated cop out to avenge his loved ones who were killed by the villains. However, the action once again impresses. Akshay's intro when he is hanging on 3rd floor of a construction building is good. He moves his body back and forth for a superb jump. The other scenes like when Akshay is on top of a car trying to kill the murders of his mother is superb. He lands on a long truck and shoots like a boss.
  • Keemat: They Are Back (1998)

    16. Keemat: They Are Back

    19982h 42m
    5.5 (1.3K)
After a man is killed when a mugging goes wrong, the two small-time crooks responsible try to make amends by pretending to be his best friends and helping his village.
DirectorSameer MalkanStarsAkshay KumarRaveena TandonSaif Ali Khan
Direction Sameer Malkan tried to cash in the success of Main Khiladi Tu Anari(1994) but he failed miserably as Keemat was a disaster at the box office. The best thing in this decent flick was Akshay's action. The scene where he puts fire on his legs and does round kicks may seem unrealistic but it's superb(for an Akshay fan like me).
  • Nagarjuna Akkineni, Pooja Bhatt, and Akshay Kumar in Angaaray (1998)

    17. Angaaray

    19982h 21m
    5.2 (931)
A Bangalore-based police officer is told to go undercover in Mumbai, infiltrate the gang run by his childhood friends and bring them to justice.
    DirectorMahesh BhattStarsAkshay KumarNagarjuna AkkineniPooja Bhatt
One of Mahesh Bhatt's unsuccessful films and his only film with Akshay Kumar. However, the film was pretty good as it had a good story of a cop who tries to get his criminal friend to stop working with the villains. The film also has incredible stunts like Akshay's jump from the top of a building to another building down below. Another incredible stunt was the one where Akshay's legs were in the window of the bus and he was outside trying to get in while the villains were trying to get his legs out so he can die.
  • Barood (1998)

    18. Barood

    19982h 39mNot Rated
    4.3 (737)
Jai, a police officer embarks on the mission to eliminate his enemies, who destroyed his life.
    DirectorPramod ChakravortyStarsRakhee GulzarAkshay KumarRaveena Tandon
Often described as one of Akshay's terrible mistakes from the 1990s, the film was an average film which was only above average(for me) because of the death defying stunts. The climax stunts with the muscular guys were awesome and the song Main Hoon Barood was another crowd puller. However, the crowd couldn't stand this film for more than a couple of days. Verdict: Disaster
  • Mukesh Khanna, Akshay Kumar, Kiran Kumar, Ekta Sohini, and Farheen in Nazar Ke Samne (1995)

    19. Nazar Ke Samne

    19951h 36mNot Rated
    3.8 (548)
Unemployed and alcoholic wastrel Jai Kumar makes money by indulging in unlawful activities for people who are into shady doings. His life changes when he gives false testimony in court accusing an innocent photographer, Umesh of killing a newspaper editor, B.K. Sharma. Umesh's sister Sarita goes to plead to Jai and he agrees to help her find the real killers of B.K. Sharma. As they get closer and closer to the real killer, Jai and Sarita themselves become targets of the killer and must try and save themselves.
    DirectorJagdish A. SharmaStarsAkshay KumarFarheenEkta Sohini
An Akshay Kumar film from 1994 which went unnoticed. This was a truly deserving film because not only did it have a novel story with a mysterious villain but also the fact that it was different from the typical movies from the 1990s. Another positive thing was that Akshay Kumar continued his brilliant round kicking style action with solid punches.
  • Khiladi 420 (1999)

    20. Khiladi 420

    19992h 37mNot Rated
    5.2 (2.2K)
Dev, a conman, gets killed by his wife Ritu, after she learns that the former is a debt-ridden thug who married her only to repay his debts. Her life turns upside down when she meets Anand, Dev's identical twin brother.
    DirectorNeeraj VoraStarsAkshay KumarMahima ChaudhryAntara Mali
Last and definitely the least, this film only works because of Akshay Kumar's presence and the death defying stunts. The stunts like the jump from an airplane to a hot air balloon and dodging those falling cars was quite amazing. Other than that, nothing really works in the movie. The story is poorly narrated, most of the supporting cast is weak and the villain act is forced.
