Found Footage. Mocos. Hand Helds

by Shelpa • Created 11 years ago • Modified 3 years ago
I am a found footage movie addict and have not been able to find a definitive list anywhere on the web, so I created this one. It is still under construction and I am working through reviewing the movies I have seen, watching those I haven't and finding those I don't have yet. I am also still searching for all of those obscure FF movies and will add them when I find them as well as 'coming soon' FF movies.

Edit: I have found an even more comprehensive list and recommend all ff fans check it out.

  • Muirhouse (2012)

    1. Muirhouse

    20121h 15m
    4.1 (574)
In 2007 author Phillip Muirhouse was left alone in a haunted homestead called 'Monte Cristo'. He was there making a documentary that was to accompany his latest book. He also broke the rule of all ghost hunters.... Never Be Alone. The following is video documentation leading to he is arrest.
DirectorTanzeal RahimStarsIain P.F. McDonaldKate HendersonSteve Lynch
Aussie FF filmed in Junee, NSW. This movie plodded along quite slowly and I found myself bored, the acting was below average but the reactions of the protagonist to the situation he was in was realistic. Unfortunately there was nothing original about the story although there were a couple of good scares.

    Rating 5/10

    DirectorCarlo LedesmaStarsBel DeliáAndy RodoredaSteve Davis
Aussie FF filmed in the unused St James train tunnels in Sydney, NSW. I found the story to be original and the acting above average. There were a few good scares too. Part 2 is on the cards, hopefully it will live up to this one.

The second movie in the franchise but it is actually a prequel to the first movie. Still just as scary and almost as good as the first.

DirectorsHenry JoostAriel SchulmanStarsStephen DunhamKatie FeatherstonMatt Shively
The forth movie in the franchise and the least popular. I personally found this story the most boring of the lot but the scares were still there.

The movie that popularised the FF genre. Still one of the best and proves that you don't need ghosts, gore or monsters to make a really scary movie.

I really liked this movie and was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't quite what I expected which was a good thing. I would recommend watching this with as little knowledge about the movie as possible.

Strange things start happening after a girl is found drowned in a lake.
    DirectorJoel AndersonStarsRosie TraynorDavid PledgerMartin Sharpe
An Aussie movie which was quite scary. Good acting. I went in knowing it was a supernatural type movie but I started questioning that at a few points in the movie which was a good thing. It had a couple of twists which you don't get in a lot of FF movie's and I was riveted throughout. The ending was good too.

    Rating 8/10.

    DirectorSean TrettaStarsPatti TindallMike MarshDavina Joy
I personally liked this movie and found it to be fairly well done and scary. That said, the story wasn't overly original and the acting wasn't the greatest. They did tie everything up nicely though and the ending was satisfying.

    Rating 7/10.
  • Evidence (2012)

    12. Evidence

    20121h 18mR
    5.0 (5.6K)
Ryan makes a documentary on his friend, Brett, and his first time camping, until a mysterious figure in the woods starts hunting them.
    DirectorHowie AskinsStarsRyan McCoyBrett RosenbergAshley Bracken
I loved this movie, what a gem. It starts out looking like it will fall clearly into one genre and then does a 180 and changes direction, only to do another 180 and change yet again. The acting and special effects were great. Only criticism is that they do, at times, go overboard with the camera shaking and flicking off/on. This movie is definitely underrated on IMDB.

    Rating 8/10.
  • Amber Alert (2012)

    13. Amber Alert

    20121h 20mR

When a group of friends decides to follow a car they've seen posted on an Amber Alert, things start to go very wrong.
    DirectorKerry BellessaStarsSummer BellessaChris HillJasen Wade
I liked this movie but it does seem to polarize viewers. I feel that it is underrated in IMDB. The characters can be annoying but I think a lot of people would behave in a similar way if in the same situation. The final scene is important and ties the story together very well. I would recommend this to anyone who has a passion for FF and wants a break from the supernatural genre.

    Rating 7/10.
  • A Night in the Woods (2011)

    14. A Night in the Woods

    20111h 22mTV-MA
    3.6 (1K)
Brody, his girlfriend Kerry and their friend Leo go hiking in Dartmoor's Wistman's Woods, so named because of its legendary haunted past. That night jealousies, sexual tensions and strained relationships come to a head turning what should have been a peaceful camping adventure into a trip to terror. As collective paranoia reaches fever pitch it becomes clear that there is a much darker force at work in the ancient eerie surroundings. Who or what is after them? And can any one of them survive a night in the woods?
    DirectorRichard ParryStarsScoot McNairyAnna SkellernAndrew Hawley
This movie was so/so. I am a fan of Scoot McNairy and find him an engaging actor. I thought the acting overall was great. It does take a while for things to start happening but once it does its scary, very Blair Witchy but unfortunately at the end of the movie you don't really know what happened and why.

    15. 8213: Gacy House

    20101h 26mNot RatedVideo
    3.1 (2.2K)
A group of investigators enter the former property of depraved serial killer John Wayne Gacy, hoping to find evidence of paranormal activity. Upon entering the place they set-up cameras throughout the abandoned house while going room to room with hand-held cameras, performing séances and asking for John Wayne Gacy to come forward. As the evening progresses it seems the investigators are not prepared for the horror still within the house.
    DirectorAnthony FankhauserStarsMichael GaglioSally ElbertJohn Karyus
Slightly less than so/so. Below average acting and unoriginal story. Bad decisions by the characters. If you like boring episodes of Ghost Hunters you will like this.

One redeeming part was the very final scene, that gave me a few goosebumps.

    DirectorGonzalo López-GallegoStarsWarren ChristieLloyd OwenRyan Robbins
Another so/so effort. I'm a sci-fi fan so I really wanted to like it but it fell short on nearly all levels (acting, story, camera work etc). The good - The special effects were great and they did a really good job of making you feel isolated. IMDB rating is fair.

This was well worth the wait. Great acting, great story and just as scary as the originals. This is not a sequel or prequel to any of the others but more of a side story, much like Tokyo Night. Highly Recommended.

A really good movie and a must see for fans of Ghost Hunting TV shows. Everything that you hope will one day happen for real in Ghost Hunters they made come true in this movie. Story, SFX and acting were all good. There is one scene that will scare the pants off you and it only gets better from there.

Not a fan of this sequel. I had such high hopes but it didn't deliver. They did try hard and get an 'A' for effort. It was slow and not nearly as scary as the first as you have already seen it all before. I didn't like the characters either.

A great Spanish FF movie and way underrated on IMDB. This movie is intense and creepy and the build up was great. I loved the characters and the way they used the camera. I didn't see the ending coming and loved the little twist, it was a perfect ending despite what the IMDB haters are saying. This movie lays it all out and ties everything up well. Highly recommended.

This movie is a great addition to the franchise. I was riveted throughout the entire movie and the way they tied it in to the originals was very clever. I also thought this was just as scary, if not scarier, than the American movies. Recommended.

I enjoying this movie. The story wasn't overly original but the acting was good and there was enough going on to keep me watching. The effects were pretty creepy, not too over the top. Recommended for sci-fi FF fans.

AKA Apartment 143. I loved this movie, one of my favourites, it really got to me and I think that was due to the great acting, especially from the actor playing the father. Super creepy and a great story too. I have watched quite a few of Rodrigo Cortés' movies and would recommend Red Lights to those that like Parapsychology movies. Not FF but a great movie. Highly Recommended.
