"Inky" Ames, theatrical press agent, through a fictitious story makes it appear that Anitra St. Clair, an actress, is the long lost daughter of Theodore True, the copper king. True accepts the actress as his daughter, and they, in answer to a telegram from Bud Haskel, representative in the west, decide to go westward immediately to inspect a newly-discovered copper mine. Bud Haskel is, incidentally, volunteer "school master" to the flower of a gypsy camp, Romany. The girl is loved by Zinga, son of the gypsy chief. Upon her father's threat to wed her to Zinga, Romany seeks the help of Bud, who aids her to escape. Zinga suspects Bud of conniving at Romany's escape and follows him constantly. Irking under the restraints of her new life, Anitra decides to give her former gayeties a whirl and finds in True's nephew Hobart, a willing assistant. She incurs the enmity of "Inky," who resolves to put True wise to the fact that the actress is not really his daughter. Romany, with the broader knowledge of life imparted to her by books, turns to her new world with keen expectancy, and is glad to receive Bud again at her first party. That same evening Romany discovers Hobart at his uncle's safe, but does not discover the fact that Hobart has extracted money from the strong box. Determined to make True see that he is being imposed upon by Anitra, "Inky" seeks out Bud Haskel, telling Bud that the actress is not True's daughter, and that he ("Inky") has cooked up a press stunt to advertise the show she was in. Zinga's persistent shadowing of Bud to uncover Romany's whereabouts succeeds at last. One development is that Romany writes a letter to True stating that she has been grateful to True and Haskel for their kindness, but that she must leave the True home; that she is broken hearted. Romany is then suspected of taking the money from True's safe, but after Anitra's deception is exposed to True, Hobart confesses to his uncle that he (Hobart) is the guilty one. Bud discovers Romany's whereabouts and persuades her to return to True's mansion. Bud also secures Zinga's release from prison, where he has been confined upon Zinga's assurance that he has a revelation to make to Mr. True. The gypsy tells True that Romany is really True's daughter; that when the girl grew up Zinga wanted her for himself. That the gypsies named her Romany. True is happy in the recovery of his daughter, and Bud and Romany plight their troth.

The Germans, who are anxious to secure some papers that Robert possesses, employ Viola Durand to get to Robert through Elaine. Viola tricks Elaine into giving her the papers and also procures a letter that seems to establish Elaine as the traitor. George Blair, an official at the Department of Justice, finally tricks Viola into confessing her guilt, thus clearing Elaine's name.

Aspiring actress Elizabeth Dalston, after rehearsing a murder scene for a movie, is fired by her director at the request of the company's Wall Street backer, Sylvanus Power. Although married, Power plans to make Elizabeth his mistress and offers the unsuspecting girl a dramatic education in England, to be followed by his building a theater for her. Traveling across England after school, Elizabeth witnesses a fight between two brothers, Philip and Douglas Romilly, which ends in Douglas' supposed death. On the steamer to America, Philip, disguised as Douglas, confides in Elizabeth that he was fighting to persuade Douglas not to leave his pregnant lover. Elizabeth believes him and in New York they fall in love. After she convinces Power to produce Philip's play, both the play and her acting are hits. When Power propositions Elizabeth and discovers her passion for Philip, he summons Scotland Yard detectives, but Douglas reappears and clears Philip. Power then graciously admits his defeat.

Novelist April Poole reads her new book to Kerry Sarle, her publisher and sweetheart, and to Ronald Kenna, her editor. The story begins at a masked ball, where April meets Kerry and recognizes master thief Kenna. April retrieves a note discarded by Kenna and learns that he intends to steal the Mannister diamond. Meanwhile, the Earl of Mannister, hoping to end his daughter Diana's relationship with an impoverished American artist, orders her to deliver the jewel to her mannish female cousin, Clive Connal, in South Africa. Aboard the train, Diana persuades April to assume her identity. Eager to foil Kenna, April complies. When Kerry overhears a struggle in April's stateroom, he rushes in and ejects Kenna. In gratitude, April reveals her identity and mission. After Kerry receives a note from April that asks him to take the trunk to Clive, April disappears. Disconsolate, Kerry delivers the trunk. When Kenna and his cronies locate it, April springs out, pistol in hand, and captures them. As she concludes her tale, April embraces Kerry, who accepts the story.

She and Maximilian plan to wed, but when the Swiss threaten Mary's father, the duke, with war if the marriage occurs, he arranges a marriage for her with the mentally unstable Dauphin of France. Maximilian determines to rescue her from marriage with the dauphin--even if it means war with the Swiss.

Fely's father, however, becomes wealthy when his investment in Edison's incandescent light pays off, but Dirk's father is ruined. Fely saves De Rhondo's bank from a run by making a large deposit, thus winning over Dirk's family and paving the way for their marriage.
