  • The Skull (1965)

    1. The Skull

    6.2 (3.9K)
A collector comes into possession of the skull of the Marquis de Sade and learns it is possessed by an evil spirit.
    DirectorFreddie FrancisStarsPeter CushingPatrick WymarkChristopher Lee
The interior of the main character's house is actually more than I can stand, it is SO incredibly gorgeous, I'd do anything to go visit that house not to mention live in a house like that. Beautiful.
The hallway and what we can see from the entrance is a beautiful mixture of victorian and mid century decor, with a blue wallpaper. Just stunning, with a cool atmosphere that greatly contradicts the wood and bronze tones of the study, filled with ornate, baroque decorations and collectibles. I can't decide which I like more but both have a unique and stunning atmospheric effect.
Of course the outside is nice enough as well, it's a split victorian mansion, one turned into townhouses. I sure wouldn't mind living there and i'm sure it's incredibly expensive.

  • The House by the Cemetery (1981)

    3. The House by the Cemetery

A New England home is terrorized by a series of murders, unbeknownst to the guests that a gruesome secret is hiding in the basement.
    DirectorLucio FulciStarsCatriona MacCollPaolo MalcoAnia Pieroni
This house is genuinely the stuff dreams and nightmares are made of. The way it's presented is so oneiric; the house itself is very much a classic 'haunted house' type, a gorgeous, large, blue Victorian revival in a state of partial neglect but still stately. The house in this film made a strangely strong impression on me since the first time I watched the movie, I still think about it sometimes years later. The idea of the grave inside the house was extremely unique and striking, and there are some beautiful rooms/decorations as well.
The whole vibe is only accented by the fact that there are graves in the fucking yard too. This entire film is just so dreamlike, truly Fulci's best film, one to rival Argento.

A jazz pianist and a wisecracking journalist are pulled into a complex web of mystery after the former witnesses the brutal murder of a psychic.
    DirectorDario ArgentoStarsDavid HemmingsDaria NicolodiGabriele Lavia
Probably THE most gorgeous home I've ever seen on film even though it's run down. It's done in fluid Art Nouveau style, something you almost never see on film or in real life. I rewatch the house scene several times every time I watch the film.

Travelling to Venice to locate an ex-partisan on behalf of a French insurance company, a British private detective gets mixed-up in a political assassination conspiracy.
    DirectorRalph ThomasStarsRichard ToddEva BartokJohn Gregson
Just the gorgeous architecture of Venice. A lot of this is filmed in the reclaimed, now public buildings of the rich oligarchs of the 1700s, built in the baroque Rococo style and furnished the same. Really adds to the atmosphere.
