My favourite romantic movies of all time

by lisafordeay • Created 10 years ago • Modified 4 years ago
We girls love a good romantic film. Whether its animated or not. We love watching romantic films cause of the leading men and the charcthers ending up being together in the end basically we love to just turn off our brains and feel loved. Some of these films maybe animated but still though they do count if they are romantic. So with that said let's dive in to the countdown.

  • Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman in While You Were Sleeping (1995)

    1. While You Were Sleeping

    6.8 (121K)
A hopelessly romantic Chicago Transit Authority ticket booth operator is mistaken for the fiancée of a comatose patient.
    DirectorJon TurteltaubStarsSandra BullockBill PullmanPeter Gallagher
What can I say about this movie as it has it all. Great acting, nice heartwarming score, fantastic chemistry between Bill Pullman and Sandra Bullock, and a very cute ending. I always loved this as a kid and to this day I still watch it as I seen it two days ago on DVD. Its a feel good christmas romantic comedy that all centers on a young woman who is unlucky in love and has a crush on a guy who ends up in a coma and she ends up falling for the coma's younger brother Jack.
  • Jennifer Garner in 13 Going on 30 (2004)

I absolutely love this movie the more times I watch it. It's funny, heartwarming, has a great message about not rushing into things. Love Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo in this film
  • Susan Sarandon, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, and Amy Adams in Enchanted (2007)

    3. Enchanted

    20071h 47mPG75Metascore
    7.1 (225K)
A young maiden in a land called Andalasia, who is prepared to be wed, is sent away to New York City by an evil Queen, where she falls in love with a lawyer.
    DirectorKevin LimaStarsAmy AdamsSusan SarandonJames Marsden
Very similar to a film I have mentioned on this list( Kate & Leopold),Enchanted borrows elements off past disney movies and combines them all together to create this half animated/half live action romantic comedy.
Amy Adams was very good as Giselle the princess who is banished from her world to modern day New York City in 2007.

Of course she falls in love with a divorced divorce lawyer named Robert Phillip(aka Patrick Dempsey)who is a single dad as he has to rear her on his own(Morgan).
OVERALL its a feel good romantic fantasy, with great chemistry between Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey. I've seen it so many times it never gets old. Plus we are finally getting a sequel in 2022.
  • Lily James in Cinderella (2015)

    4. Cinderella

    20151h 45mPG67Metascore

    DirectorKenneth BranaghStarsLily JamesCate BlanchettRichard Madden
Yes I seen this film twice this year and as I have mentioned in my review for it on IMDB that I have never witnessed a romantic film like this in a very long time. It was charming and romantic and ever so old fashioned.Richard Madden was dreamy as the prince and Lily James was very good as Cinderella Have courage and be kind.
  • Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi in Tangled (2010)

    5. Tangled

    20101h 40mPG71Metascore
    7.7 (527K)
The magically long-haired Rapunzel has spent her entire life in a tower, but now that a runaway thief has stumbled upon her, she is about to discover the world for the first time, and who she really is.
DirectorsNathan GrenoByron HowardStarsMandy MooreZachary LeviDonna Murphy
What you say an animated film makes my list, you betcha it did and let me tell ya this is my favourite movie of all time (animated or not) yeah it stars Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi as the voices of two people who weren't suppose to meet at all since Levi voices a theif named Eugene Fitzherbert aka Flynn Rider(as he is known for a while). who is on the run and Rapunzel(Mandy Moore) hits him with her pan as he hides out in her tower.

From here on in romance blossoms and did I forgot to mention its a Disney movie and it made me cry. Yeah a 24 year old woman cry. Check it out its brilliant.
  • The Notebook (2004)

    6. The Notebook

    20042h 3mPG-1353Metascore
    7.8 (663K)
An elderly man reads to a woman with dementia the story of two young lovers whose romance is threatened by the difference in their respective social classes.
    DirectorNick CassavetesStarsGena RowlandsJames GarnerRachel McAdams
Very sad romantic film centering on an elderly couple who look back at there time as a young couple. Hankies for this one too.
  • Robby Benson and Paige O'Hara in Beauty and the Beast (1991)

    7. Beauty and the Beast

    19911h 24mG95Metascore
    8.0 (496K)
A prince cursed to spend his days as a hideous monster sets out to regain his humanity by earning a young woman's love.
DirectorsGary TrousdaleKirk WiseStarsPaige O'HaraRobby BensonJesse Corti
Again another Disney movie but this one was very good its a masterpiece next to Tangled it was that good. The romance was cute, the music was very good, the charcthers. The list goes on and on about this movie.
  • Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Billy Zane, Kathy Bates, and Frances Fisher in Titanic (1997)

    8. Titanic

    19973h 14mPG-1375Metascore
    7.9 (1.4M)
A seventeen-year-old aristocrat falls in love with a kind but poor artist aboard the luxurious, ill-fated R.M.S. Titanic.
    DirectorJames CameronStarsLeonardo DiCaprioKate WinsletBilly Zane
Ahw yes the late James Horner won't be forgotten here in this epic love story(as he did the score for this film btw) between a debutante and a poor man who meet at the ship that ends up being hit by an iceberg causing there romance to be at risk.

Leonardo Di Caprio was very good in this movie with Kate Winslet and to this day it still holds my number one spot in my all time favourite live action movies.
  • Mandy Moore and Shane West in A Walk to Remember (2002)

    9. A Walk to Remember

    20021h 41mPG35Metascore
    7.3 (228K)
Two North Carolina teens, Landon Carter and Jamie Sullivan, are thrown together after Landon gets into trouble and is sentenced to perform community service.
    DirectorAdam ShankmanStarsMandy MooreShane WestPeter Coyote
Another Nicholas Sparks movie makes my list. I loved this movie since I first saw it on TV and now I own it on DVD. I was always a fan of Mandy Moore so she was very good in this movie.Shane West was great as her love interest. Hankies ready.
  • Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard in Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)

    10. Breakfast at Tiffany's

    19611h 55mApproved77Metascore
    7.5 (200K)
A young New York socialite becomes interested in a young man who has moved into her apartment building, but her past threatens to get in the way.
    DirectorBlake EdwardsStarsAudrey HepburnGeorge PeppardPatricia Neal
Ahw yes Moon River was the reason this film is popular. I loved the chemistry between Audrey Hepburn and George Palliard and don't talk about the rain kiss scene. So romantic as every romantic film wanted to be this(except While You Were Sleeping and The Notebook of course).
  • Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in You've Got Mail (1998)

    11. You've Got Mail

    19981h 59mPG58Metascore
    6.7 (239K)
Book superstore magnate Joe Fox and independent book shop owner Kathleen Kelly fall in love in the anonymity of the Internet, both blissfully unaware that he's trying to put her out of business.
    DirectorNora EphronStarsTom HanksMeg RyanGreg Kinnear
Meg Ryan was litreally like Sandra Bullock in the day now she is nowhere to be seen(but she was spotted recently looking like her normal self again). Now Meg Ryan worked with Tom Hanks alot and yes Sleepless In Seattle was a very good romantic film too don't get me wrong but for me You've Got Mail was better as hr and Hanks had alot more chemistry and they actually kissed in the end whereas in Sleepless In Seattle they met up at the end and that was it.

Still though I love Sleepless In Seattle too.
  • Meg Ryan and Hugh Jackman in Kate & Leopold (2001)

    12. Kate & Leopold

    20011h 58mPG-1344Metascore
    6.4 (92K)
An English Duke from 1876 is inadvertently dragged to modern day New York where he falls for a plucky advertising executive.
    DirectorJames MangoldStarsMeg RyanHugh JackmanLiev Schreiber
Hugh Jackman aka Wolverine from the X-Men trilogy in a romantic comedy? Yup Mr Jackman decided to ditch his action persona to star in this rather peculiar yet feel good romantic fantasy in which he plays a English duke named Leopold who is forced to marry a bride in 1876 New York City by his English Uncle who wants him to marry before he gets too old. So add some time travel thanks to Leopold's great great grandson Stuart Bessar(Liev Schivber)and Leopold ends up in modern day New York City in 2001 thanks to a crack in time in a time portal...hmm. Anyway he ends up falling in love with Meg Ryan's cranky businesswoman Kate McKay who's ex boyfriend happens to be Stuart the time traveller. But will they won't they get together. You betcha they do as the title says it all.
