Paulette and her husband have been running a housekeeping school. After the sudden death of her husband, Paulette discovers that the school is on the verge of bankruptcy and has to take her responsibilities.

In a small town, crushed by the heat of summer, in 1919, a war hero was held prisoner in a deserted barracks. In front of the door, his whipped dog barks day and night. Not far away, in the countryside, a young woman worn out by the work of the land, too educated to be a simple peasant, wait and hope. The judge who arrives to unravel this case is an aristocrat whose war has made the principles falter. Three characters and, in the middle of them, a dog, which holds the key of the drama.

The corpse of the healer Rose Tournault has been found in her house and the police captain Anna Buisson will be in charge of the investigation.When she arrives at the house of the dead, she meets Eymeric Massoni who is looking at the corpse of his grandmother which is covered with white petals.Then he presents himself as the grandson of the victim and precises that the petals are those of the thorn apple (Datura stramonium).Some years ago a dam was build : a village and some hamlets were sunken and some families lost their houses. There is a legend of a white lady who goes around the lake.

In the Gorges du Verdon, Major Thierry Rouvier, close to retirement, and young Captain Elie Zakine are brought together to investigate the murder of a 78-year-old man found on the Castillon dam. They are soon joined by Chloé Delage, a psycho-criminologist who is none other than Major Rouvier's daughter. Chance doesn't necessarily make things right, as she and Thierry have a complicated family relationship.

Dimitri joins La Maison, a place where people are welcomed for whom medicine can not do anything anymore. There he meets Suzanne, a volunteer who is dedicated to supporting people at the end of their lives.
