Anna and Michailo grow up together, attracted to each other since their earliest days. When Anna's father dies, her brothers force her into marriage with the mean farmer Mikola. After years of absence, Michailo comes home, to get her back.

The first post-war years. Kolya Letechka lives in the orphanage - a victim of the "Kinderheim" concentration camp, where the Germans conducted their research on children. Terrible memories make themselves felt when Kolka finds himself on trial over traitors.

In the Karakum sands, the only living plant seems to be the tree Dzhamal and her husband shepherd Nazar have set. Then it's war. When Nazar comes back from a convalescence at the hospital, everything seems to be just as before. But is happiness still possible ?

The events take place in the nineteenth century and tell the story of an orphan boy and a vagrant trainer, whose paths crossed and gave them an unforgettable journey. Vagrancy helped the boy in many ways, tempering his character. And the orphan Remmy was able to overcome all the trials - only thanks to the support and strong friendship of the trainer, and eventually found a family.

In one of the southern ports come on board ships of the Entente troops, including those from Spain. The young underground fighter Maria gets the job to campaign among the Spanish sailors and soldiers. This is where she meets a sailor Pablo. Love starts to grow between them.

Set in Vietnam during the war. Russian journalist Stepanov is in the heat of action. Stepanov makes a report about the battle against the American invasion. His report is anticipated by the news editor in Moscow. But Stepanov's car is followed by an American helicopter. The American helicopter pilot, Ed Stewart, used to be Stepanov's friend. Now he has been ordered to kill the Russian journalist before his report is sent.

Set in the Soviet Union in the 70s. Modernization of Soviet metallurgical industry causes a clash between old style Communist bosses and the new generation of engineers and managers. Engineer Ruzaev (Aleksandr Mikhailov) is introducing innovations in technology, but Soviet reality makes it hard for him. Outdated infrastructure causes a cascade of problems, then a major explosion shakes the old metal works where a giant melting pot blows up. Tons of melted steel pour out causing a catastrophe, alluding to dangerous state of affairs in the Soviet Union. Now old-style bosses must be replaced with forward thinking managers.
