2012: Cable Shows Cancelled & Ending

by RecceR • Created 13 years ago • Modified 12 years ago
Cable works very different from broadcast so this list will be just cable. They will be placed from earliest to most recent. If I missed a show, let me know and I will add it.

Please Note: While some of these series are not actually ending in 2012, they were given an end date in 2012. Cancelled Shows from other countries that may or may not air on US networks will be placed here also.

Other lists of mine you may find helpful.

On 5/17/12, A&E cancelled their scripted series after 2 seasons. The series had mediocre ratings, but lack of marketing and airing during an odd time of the year without a companion series are definite contributors. The second season finished airing on April 29th, 2012.

On 5/17/12, MTV decided not to renew its critically-acclaimed series for a second season. This is not a surprise because MTV has been trying to launch late-night comedies since 2010, hoping viewers from Teen Mom would tune in. On 5/21/12, A&E confirmed the reality series was cancelled. It ran for eight seasons and there are many reasons to why the series is ending, between Dog’s real-life drama and the series being sued. Let’s just say, “everything needs to end at some point” and move on.

On 5/21/12, Syfy announced the series would not be coming back for a fifth season. The fourth season finished up in December 2011, and there had been zero word on a pickup until now. Apparently many things were left hanging and there is definitely a huge uproar from fans and even cast members. Syfy (Sci-Fi) has never been too smart when it comes to shows that heavily deal with the hardcore science-fiction genre. It’s no secret that they have abruptly cancelled several other series in the past, but Sanctuary is the longest-running series they have cancelled without an official ending.

On 6/4/12, Starz announced their hit series would conclude with a third season, entitled “War of the Damned.” The decision comes as a shock and apparently was a “difficult” one amongst everyone. As the CEO of Starz (Christ Albrecht) put it, “Spartacus is a landmark series for the network which has enthralled millions of viewers and fans around the world. We are in agreement with our partners in the decision to conclude the story after War Of The Damned, as we believe it is the best way to maintain the integrity of the series and secure its legacy.” The final season is now entering production and is expected to begin airing in January 2013, with an official ending.
