MY TOP TEN CURRENTLY AIRING TV SERIES...

by Robert_duder • Created 13 years ago • Modified 13 years ago
I don't know whether I'm a bigger movie junkie or a TV junkie...I watch...or rather record to watch later...40 hours of Television each week, shocking I know. On top of that there is a handful of currently airing TV Shows I would still like to start watching. However...here is a list made October 2011 of the my favorite TV Shows currently still airing...watch them and keep them alive!!

  • Zachary Levi and Yvonne Strahovski in Chuck (2007)

    1. Chuck

    2007–201291 epsTV-14TV Series
    8.2 (152K)
When a computer geek inadvertently downloads critical government secrets into his brain, both the CIA and the NSA assign an agent to protect him and exploit his newfound skills.
CreatorsChris FedakJosh SchwartzStarsZachary LeviYvonne StrahovskiJoshua Gomez
Chuck has had a lot of ups and downs since it's conception in 2007. I feel blessed because when I fell in love with this series I was convinced it would never last a full season. Now sadly they are on their last season but we got five amazing seasons out of Chuck, Sarah, and Casey....and the rag tag group of friends. Incredible guest stars that make the geek in you swoon....(Dolph Lungdren saying his famous Rocky IV line..."If he dies, he dies" or regular guest star Linda Hamilton saying "come with me if you want to live." That's only the icing on the cake. The cast are amazing together, and best of all Zachery Levi as Chuck Bartowski is one of the best superheroes out there!! If you haven't seen Chuck, do yourself a favor and fall in love with everyone on this cast!!

  • James Pickens Jr., Ellen Pompeo, and Chandra Wilson in Grey's Anatomy (2005)

    2. Grey's Anatomy

    2005– 466 epsTV-14TV Series
    7.6 (363K)
A drama centered on the personal and professional lives of five surgical interns and their supervisors.
CreatorShonda RhimesStarsEllen PompeoChandra WilsonJames Pickens Jr.
I don't know what originally started my wife and I watching Grey's because we didn't watch it from the beginning but now we are all caught up and I don't think a week could go by without joining the crazy determined surgeons at Seattle Grace. They have done some of the most riveting, heart wrenching episodes in TV History. I have never been moved or more terrified of TV Entertainment than their Episodes Sanctuary and Death And All His Friends where a shooter cut a path through the hospital. It is the most intense two hours of TV you will ever see. The cast is brilliant, the characters are so defined and important and I think the series could continue for at least another two years...maybe more...look at ER.

    Emmy Nominations---11
    Emmy Awarded---4
    Current Seasons---8
Top Ten Show according to Neilson Ratings--No (but always high on TiVo recording lists)
  • David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel in Bones (2005)

    3. Bones

    2005–2017245 epsTV-14TV Series
    7.8 (185K)
F.B.I. Special Agent Seeley Booth teams up with the Jeffersonian's top anthropologist, Dr. Temperance Brennan, to investigate cases where all that's left of the victims are their bones.
    CreatorHart HansonStarsEmily DeschanelDavid BoreanazMichaela Conlin
If this were a list of my ALL TIME favorite TV Shows you would find the Nineties Buffy Spin off Angel on that list. So it was simple to say that I would be watching the star of that show David Boreanaz in this show which premiered in 2005. Since then I have fallen in love with Dr. Temperance Brennan, Sealey Booth, and the entire team!! There has been a few casting changes but the core group has always held the show together. It's part CSI but with a delicious eccentricity to it. The ongoing sexual chemistry between Booth and Brennan has kept the show alive with a spark...it'll be interesting to see whether that stays now that they are together in this new season. Bones is a procedural drama that is unlike anything else on Television.

  • Amy Brenneman, Brian Benben, Benjamin Bratt, Taye Diggs, Kate Walsh, Paul Adelstein, Caterina Scorsone, and KaDee Strickland in Private Practice (2007)

    4. Private Practice

    2007–2013112 epsTV-14TV Series
    6.8 (30K)
A spin-off of the medical drama "Grey's Anatomy" centering on the life of neonatal surgeon Addison Montgomery.
    CreatorShonda RhimesStarsKate WalshPaul AdelsteinKaDee Strickland
Sometimes a spin-off is exactly what fans love to see. More of your favorite characters, cross-overs, a new premise, a new setting. Private Practice embraced ALL that and more because the new cast of characters headlined by Grey's Anatomy's Addison Montgomery are amazing. They are equal to Grey's original cast and sometimes even better. Private Practice doesn't focus as much on the ER trauma side of things although they throw it in there sometimes to mix it up. It's a little more soapy, more dramatic, and sometimes a little more out there in the wild medical cases but it stays alive and stays riveting because of the cast. It was multiple times through this past summer I thought...aw man...I wonder what's gonna happen to Pete (Pete dropped from a heart attack in the last minutes of the season finale, his toddler son onlooking, Pete desperately trying to crawl to the phone.) Private Practice is all about the characters and I love it!!

    Emmy Nominations---0 (very strange actually?)
    Emmy Awarded---0
Current Seasons---5 (P.S. Pete's okay...but he's having some emotional problems since his attack)
Top Ten Show according to Neilson Ratings---No
  • Mariska Hargitay in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999)

    5. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

    1999– 574 epsTV-14TV Series
    8.1 (138K)
Follows the New York City Police Department's (NYPD) Special Victims Unit (SVU), a specially trained squad of detectives who investigates sex crimes including rape, child sexual abuse, human trafficking and domestic violence.
    CreatorDick WolfStarsMariska HargitayChristopher MeloniIce-T
First of all...I think the loss of Christopher Meloni is a true loss to this series. I respect him for leaving to join the cast of The Man Of Steel...a property which I love dearly....but Elliot Stabler together with Olivia Benson made this show through and through. Sure Benson is still there but its like a piece of her is missing and that chemistry that made this show last for so long is missing. However, SVU is still one of the Cop Procedural legends. It is the only Law and Order version I watch and I only started watching it a few years ago so someday I hope to catch up on the other seasons. SVU is cut and dry in the way it's laid out...crime, interview, suspect, chase, arrest, prosecute....but somehow they manage to keep it riveting every single episode either with a disturbing storyline or some really great acting. The guest stars are outstanding (most recently TR Knight of Grey's Anatomy fame played identical twins...one of whom rapes women and blames it on the other.) SVU might sadly be winding down but we had a truly terrific run so catch it before its gone!!

    Emmy Nominations---17
Emmy Awarded---6 (4 of those for Guest Stars on the show)
    Current Seasons---13 (Impressive!!)
Top Ten Show according to Neilson Ratings---Last year it was
  • Hugh Laurie in House (2004)

    6. House

    2004–2012176 epsTV-14TV Series
    8.7 (567K)
Using a crack team of doctors and his wits, an antisocial maverick doctor specializing in diagnostic medicine does whatever it takes to solve puzzling cases that come his way.
CreatorDavid ShoreStarsHugh LaurieOmar EppsRobert Sean Leonard
I think I didn't start watching House until Season 3...and I have yet to go back and watch the first two Seasons and I can't wait to do that. House gives us what I think is one of the greatest characters in Media history...Dr. Gregory House...and he wouldn't exist in any form if not for Hugh Laurie who is absolutely brilliant. The show is ridiculous...no doctor, no hospital, no true Health care facility could or would operate like Plainsboro Hospital and no doctor would ever get away with what House does no matter how brilliant he is...however it is these reasons that makes House one of the best TV Shows ever...period. Laurie is electric and brilliant and hilarious and twisted and self involved...easily the most complicated character on Television. While each season has stuck to a familiar pattern they always seem to mix it up with some major turn of events whether it be a team members death, a twisted love affair, House's addiction, or most recently his incarceration. My brother has said before he doesn't understand why I like the show because its the same thing every time but it isn't...at all...the characters are so captivating and the scripts are so smart that this is easily one of the most intelligent shows out there. Rumor circulates that this is their last season but I beg them to reconsider because they are at the top of their games!!

Emmy Nominations---12 (50% of them to Laurie alone)
    Emmy Awarded---5
    Current Seasons---8 (please do 9!! :(
Top Ten Show according to Neilson Ratings---Yes
  • Criminal Minds (2005)

    7. Criminal Minds

    2005– 358 epsTV-14TV Series
    8.1 (233K)
The FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit in Quantico helps police solve violent serial crimes using profiling. Team members analyze evidence and psychology to catch unknown subjects, but their demanding work affects personal lives.
CreatorJeff DavisStarsKirsten VangsnessA.J. CookMatthew Gray Gubler
Another series I didn't start watching until Season...2 or 3....but quickly got hooked because of the cast and the procedural aspects of the show. The concept of this group of exceptionally smart behavioral analysts taking on some really awful killers hooks you in and keeps you watching! Procedurally it doesn't always follow a pattern to a T so it likes to mix things up a little bit. Anyone who likes the cat and mouse game of thrillers should watch Criminal Minds because nearly every episode is cat and mouse and the killers they go up against are downright twisted!! The team is such a diverse group of personalities and they work so well together and are like a family. Many people complain for instance about Thomas Gibson's 'wooden performance' in the show but that IS Aaron Hotchner...emotionally stunted, controlled, powerful...but when he goes off the rails once in awhile it makes it all the more powerful.

  • Tom Selleck, Bridget Moynahan, Donnie Wahlberg, and Will Estes in Blue Bloods (2010)

    8. Blue Bloods

    2010–2024293 epsTV-14TV Series
    7.7 (52K)
Revolves around a family of New York cops.
CreatorsMitchell BurgessRobin GreenStarsDonnie WahlbergBridget MoynahanWill Estes
Blue Bloods has always been on shaky ground...sometimes not bringing in quite the audience that CBS expects. But given they stuck it in the Friday Night sub-par spot I think it does well. This cast is outstanding all headlined by the amazing and reverent Tom Selleck. He ignites the screen with this powerful force and the Reagan Family is just riveting to follow. Everyone plays an integral part in the family and in the story and you have so many layers of the legal system all in one house...the retired Police Commissioner with deep wisdom, the Police Commissioner currently running the entire city's police force while still dealing with his time on the force, the seasoned but still young hot headed Detective, the rookie cop and the ADA holding them all together and holding them accountable. The crimes are brutal, ripped from realism, and makes it part mystery, part drama and simply outstanding performances. This became one of my favorite shows in an episode where Erin (Bridget Moynahan) is taken hostage in her own office at gun point and her father (Tom Selleck) stares down the criminal and then finally...with the delivery of a bad ass action hero sputters "Get your hands off my daughter" and blows him away....amazing!

  • Sofía Vergara, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Sarah Hyland, Ed O'Neill, Eric Stonestreet, Beatrice the Dog, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould, Rico Rodriguez, Reid Ewing, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, and Jeremy Maguire in Modern Family (2009)

    9. Modern Family

    2009–2020250 epsTV-PGTV Series
    8.5 (521K)
Three different, but related, families face trials and tribulations in their own uniquely comedic ways.
CreatorsSteven LevitanChristopher LloydStarsEd O'NeillSofía VergaraJulie Bowen
The funniest show....ever? Sometimes I think it might be. This show is part sitcom/part faux documentary with three completely different families who all share being a family together. One minute you're in tears over some insane Physical comedy that Phil performs (Ty Burrell as Phil does some amazing physical comedy reminiscent of the late great John Ritter), and the writing on this show is so brilliant, witty, and just flat out hilarious. I can honestly say I have never laughed like this at a show...especially a show that isn't your standard 'filmed in front of a live studio audience' type sitcom. Every event that comes up in this families life is told in a hilarious no holds barred way and the large cast are all so fantastic together!! Watch one episode of this and you'll literally be in tears...I knew this show was going to be an instant hit when (in the first episode) the gay couple of Cam and Mitchell) announce the arrival of their adopted daughter by holding her over Cam's head to the Circle of Light from Lion King....this is the best comedy on Television period.

  • Simon Baker in The Mentalist (2008)

    10. The Mentalist

    2008–2015151 epsTV-14TV Series
    8.2 (214K)
Famous "psychic", Patrick Jane, outs himself as a fake, and using his heightened observational skills and impeccable knowledge of the human psyche, he works with the police so he can find "Red John", the madman who killed his family.
    CreatorBruno HellerStarsSimon BakerRobin TunneyTim Kang
Sometimes a show comes along that creates a character that will go down in Television history as being unforgettable....Lucy Ricardo, Fred Flintstone, Columbo, JR Ewing...just to name a few off the top of my head. Some of these characters I think are on Television right now...two in particular come to immediate mind...Hugh Laurie's House and Simon Baker's Patrick Jane. They have a lot in common, flawed characters, self involved, conceited, displaying a certain level of psychosis to their personality and they both have this....oh crap what have I done persona when some stupid idea they have turns bad but neither will ever apologize. Much like House The Mentalist breaks a lot of rules to get things done that would probably never fly in the real world. This is about a group of Police officers from a fictional Law Enforcement agency called the CBI that uses Patrick Jane's unusual, incredible observation skills to solve murders. But Simon Baker is the glue that holds this show together. His character is brilliant and the story that carries throughout the whole series about Jane's vendetta against a serial killer (Red John) who murdered his wife and child years earlier. The Mentalist is captivating and another new spin on police procedural show.

Emmy Nominations---1 (for Simon Baker....he deserves more!)
