80s Argentinean Cinema

by NostalgicQuixote • Created 7 years ago • Modified 7 years ago
25 films that provide an overview of the decade that saw the return of democracy and the end of censorship. In chronological order. My criteria: Argentinean productions or co-productions, made during the 80s, in Spanish. The idea is to give an overview of different genres and styles. Hence the inclusion of films that may not be cinematic masterpieces, but which nevertheless represent a particular approach. Let me justify, as an example, the two films that are below the 5-star rating. _Correccional de mujeres_ is an excellent example of exploitation cinema (excuse the alliteration) by Emilio Vieyra, our own homegrown Ed Wood. _Las locuras del extraterrestre_, for its part, may be ridiculous, but it is funny as hell, and a great example of the family comedy/parody (it is also the first Argentinean film I ever saw). Finally, let me point out for the sake of accuracy an exception to the "post-censorship" situation: _Kindergarten_ is notorious for being--among many other things--the only film hindered by censorship in Argentina after the fall of the last military government. It was released in 2010, that is, 21 years after it was produced. Enjoy!
