A screenwriter comes up with a story about an affair between a maid and her employer

A car tells its story and the story of its seven owners during the years of the Third Reich in Nazi Germany.

Best friends Peter and Klaus have made a beached old barge their home. When Klaus saves the life of suicidal Nora, they offer her shelter, and gratefully she takes over their bachelor household. But then her past catches up with her.

Due to complicity in a robbery raid the young Ursula comes to a detention center, in which the education is hard since she is considered a serious offender. In a joint outbreak, she gains the respect of the other girls.
