Gen-X: Check The Newspaper For Movie Times! (1986-1990)
Oh, how did we do it? If we wanted to know what movie was playing when and where, we had to look in the newspaper! There in the Entertainment/Living section would be these glorious advertisements in black and white of current release movie posters with their showtimes and locations. Movie posters were an art form then. A one shot to get your attention and hopefully get you to buy a ticket. Not like the soulless, A.I.-generated-head salad movie posters we sadly and tragically see today.
But you have a driver’s license now. You can go anywhere. To the ends of the Earth or to the video store. Check the times in the paper. You can maybe call a girl up on her home phone (maybe a parent answers, or maybe a sibling?) and ask her out to the movies, or maybe go pick up one of your friends, or pile all your buddies in your vehicle and you all go to the movies together. The universe is at your disposal now. The possibilities are endless. You are free to roam this planet. Check the times again. What movie are you going to see and at what theater and who’s coming with you? Better go pick up that phone and start dialing straight away!
