Top 100 Egyptian Films of the Cinema Centenary

The list of the 100 best Egyptian films is the result of a referendum in which many Egyptian critics participated in 1996 to choose the 100 best Egyptian films of the twentieth century, as part of the activities of the twentieth edition of the Cairo International Festival, celebrating the centenary of Egyptian cinema which coincides with the first film showing in Egypt in 1896. The films were selected starting from 1927, when the film “Laila” was shown as an Egyptian cinematic film, and until 1996, and were supervised by writer Saad El-Din Wahba.

Statistics:
Actor Shukri Sarhan is considered to have the lion's share on the list, as 15 films starring him were chosen, followed by actor Salah Zulfikar with 10 films, then actresses Faten Hamama and Souad Hosni with 9 films each. It is noteworthy that Faten Hamama was chosen as the best Egyptian actress, third is the actress. Shadia and actor Ahmed Zaki, with 6 films, as well as actors Nour El Sharif and Ahmed Mazhar.

Actor Mahmoud El-Melegy is the actor with the most films on the list, with 21 films. International director Youssef Chahine has the most films, followed by the wonderful realism director Salah Abu Seif.
