Mira Nair - director. The first time I heard of her was when Monsoon Wedding was making a big splash here in Canada, but when I saw it I wasn't too impressed. Many years later, I give Salaam Bombay a shot and it's amazing. One of the best films by an Indian director I've ever seen, up there with Satyajit Ray and Mani Ratnam.

    DirectorDeepa MehtaStarsLisa RayJohn AbrahamSeema Biswas
Deepa Mehta - director. What a surprise that her best film has Lisa Ray as the lead actress. Actually, tbat was sarcasm, it's no surprise at all, she totally carried Bollywood/Hollywood and she clearly has versatility. Its too bad other big film directors didn't give her her some more good roles. It's lucky she at least got to star in the kind of movie Mehta is actually good at directing.

A wealthy East Indian man gives an apparently non-East Indian woman a crash course in his culture, so he can marry her with his family's approval.
    DirectorDeepa MehtaStarsRahul KhannaMoushumi ChatterjeeDina Pathak
Deepa Mehta - director. Definitely the worst of her movies that I've seen, and I hated it the first time I saw it, but I've grown to like it... mostly because of Lisa Ray, I admit, lol. Also because of Toronto. I think this was the first movie I ever saw that featured the C.N. Tower. But it has its own charm. But seriously, it's like this was made by a whole different director compared to her other films.
