A simple man from a village falls in love with his new neighbor. He enlists the help of his musical-theater friends to woo the lovely girl-next-door away from her music teacher.
    DirectorJyoti SwaroopStarsSunil DuttSaira BanuMehmood
One of the best comedies from Bollywood about a man who tries to woo his neighbour with the help of his master. Kishore Kumar and his gang members, Mehmood, Sunil Dutt, Saira Banu were all in perfect sync with each other. It was silly and I laughed my ass off the entire movie. Not a single moment of boredom.
  • Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962)

A lowly servant, Bhootnath gets close to the wife of his employer and narrates her story through his eyes and perspective.
    DirectorAbrar AlviStarsMeena KumariGuru DuttRehman Khan
One of Meena Kumari's most fantastic and iconic performance as Choti Bahu. A film way ahead of its time in depicting the conundrum of a woman who breaks conventions to please her husband and yet is trapped by the very society who taught her to worship her husband. Guru Dutt, and Rehman were great as well.

Uma's life gets better as she comes of age and has a relationship with a sensitive poet, Ashok (Dharmendra), who slowly brings her out of her shell.
    DirectorHrishikesh MukherjeeStarsDharmendraSharmila TagoreShashikala Jawalkar
A sensitive and tender romance showcasing the way a man brings a reserved and fragile girl out of her shell. I was moved to tears by the end. One of Hrishikesh Mukherjee's finest.

    DirectorHrishikesh MukherjeeStarsBalraj SahniLeela NaiduAbhi Bhattacharya
Has a woman ever looked as fragile, soft and feminine as Leela Naidu looked in this film, I doubt it. She brought out her yearning for her husband so sincerely. Balraj Sahni complimented her equally as the devoted doctor. A very very underrated pair and love story.

    DirectorA. BhimsinghStarsDilip KumarWaheeda RehmanManoj Kumar
Not your usual love triangle. Dilip Kumar's confrontation with the demons of his past, and his chemistry with Waheeda Rehman elevated this otherwise mediocre film.
  • Waheeda Rehman in Khamoshi (1969)

Tale of a female nurse trying to maintain a balance between her professional life and her emotions who falls victim to the natural feeling of love and compassion when a person takes care of another person.
    DirectorAsit SenStarsWaheeda RehmanRajesh KhannaNasir Hussain
Interesting concept, subpar execution. Dwelling into her psychology a little more and creating a stronger foundation for her 'falling in love with the patient' would have explained things better. Nonetheless, great acting from Waheeda Rahman and Rajesh Khanna.

Aslam and Nawab fall in love with the same girl, Jameela because of which misunderstandings arise between the friends.

Would have rated this movie a masterpiece if not for the ending where the problem of treating a woman like a thing that could be given away was brushed aside casually. Guru Dutt's poorest film.

Niravan (Nazir Hussain), the village postmaster receives an envelope with a cheque for a very large amount, with the instructions that he is to turn this cheque over to the most honest man in the village. Honest Niravan calls a village meeting and informs them of this outcome. They mutually agree that there are five people in the village who can be called honest, however, since the stipulation states that the amount is to be turned to only one, they decide to hold elections in the village, so that everyone can decide who the most honest man is. The outcome is hilarious as all the five prominent people bend over backwards not only to be honest and caring, but also be seen to be honest and caring. The village doctor starts treating all patients regardless of their ability to pay him; the village money-lender starts forgiving loans; the wealthy zamindar allows everyone to drink water from his property; the village priest allows the untouchables to worship in the temple. Can these people be trusted with a large sum of money? Can Niravan be trusted with this money, as he has his own liabilities, a large sum he owes to money-lenders, as well as provide dowry for the forthcoming marriage of his daughter, Seema (Sadhana).
