2024-2025 TV Series Watchlist: Superhero, Sci-fi & Horror
A Personal list of mostly Superhero, Sci-fi and Horror TV shows I haven't seen but would like to during 2025+. As I start watching a series, I'll make a few comments about them.
I'll make sure to use spoiler tags if I think I'm giving anything away.
Once I see a series, I'll delete from this list (in time). They may end up on one of my favorites list.

In the crossfire stands Harry Da Souza, a street-smart 'fixer' who knows too well where loyalties lie when opposing forces collide.08jun2025: I had glowing things to say about this series' first season for the first 9 episodes. So good.
I have been having lots of trouble watching TV (and films) for the last few years. There is so much other stuff that simply does a better job of mentally engaging.
Occasionally something airs that really grabs my attention. Mobland was the first series to do so in a while.
Anyway... I rate the first 9 episodes a 10. I had been starved for good TV.
I rate the 10th episode a 1. It did not end the way I wanted it to end. I think that if this was a miniseries, it might have ended differently. But...
They got greedy... they wanted a second season. They wanted that season so badly, they gutted the integrity of the show and its characters.
Many of you might not have a problem with the ending but I really disliked it.
Would I watch again? No. I don't like the way it ends. Final rating a 4.

03feb2025: I have watched the first 3 episodes and am blown away at how good this is. It's not a superhero kind of TV series, it's much closer to the drama and story-telling of The Sopranos.
04feb2025: Finished the 8-episode series. Great cast, top-notch writing, everything tied together to perfection. One of the best written TV series I've seen in a long time.
I haven't read what anyone else has opined about the ending but... I thought it ended in the only way it could end. It reminded us all who The Penguin really is.

18jul2025: 1st episode. Mediocre drama. Pacing issues, for example... when they are taking the kid's fingerprints we're going through the entire mundane process of all 10 fingers - one, after the other, after the other - with mundane small talk. There are similar - drawn out scenes like this.
The acting is mid. I'm not feeling any tension. I don't feel engaged because the writing is very cut-and-dry. I'll see how I feel after a second episode. - CreatorsJulie De FinaJackie van BeekStarsFelicity WardEdith PoorSteen RaskopoulosHannah Howard is the managing director of Flinley Craddick. 13feb2025: finished watching the first season and... I loved it!
The show is currently rated 4.6 by 4.4k as of 13feb. I cannot explain why it's rated so low.
Great characters, increasingly good stories with each new episode.
Like all 'The Office' type shows, it takes 'a minute' to get to know the characters. Once you make the connections with them, you just want to keep watching more episodes.
It took me about 3-4 episodes before I connected with the cast (in a big way). During the 'getting to know this new series' phase, it was Felicity Ward (as Hannah Howard) that held the series together.
I hope there is a season 2. This is my favorite 'Office' show.

This is binge-worthy good.
I love the futuristic corporate setting, the characters, the surrounding dystopia (this could be us in a few years).
This 2016 series seems so relevant today.
Will continue updating this entry as I go through more episodes but I expect to go through this series very quickly.
-----------
19feb2025: Made it through the end of episode 8. This is an absolute gem of a show. I have two remaining episodes queued for tomorrow.
-----------
20feb2025: Finished the last 2 episodes.
This series had good closure for the first season's main theme. It left some loose ends and created new open threads in the last half of the final episode that was to help segue it into a season 2.
I'm actually glad there was no season 2. I didn't like the direction they seemed to want to take season 2 into. It felt more convoluted than it needed to be. This segue did not negatively impact how engaging season 1 was.
Rating this an 8 overall because it seemed to lose itself during that last episode.

I liked the first season but it was nowhere near as good as Day 5 (2016). 'The Edge of Sleep' is low-budget but held together well by the four core characters.
I especially liked the performances of Franz Drameh as Matteo León and Eve Harlow as Linda Russo. The series is short (only 6 episodes, 20 minutes each episode).
Overall, I give the first season a 6 rating.

--------------
Finished watching the entire series on 29jun2024.
It's a drama first that's accentuated by thought-provoking Sci-fi. This series surpassed my expectations. At no point, based on the various summaries I read beforehand, was I prepared for the kinds of challenges our travelers would encounter.
These challenges really spiced up the entire series. Loved the powerful ending and the closure in the first season.

30jun2024: binged-watched the entire 6-episode first season. This is one of the better super-powered TV series ever produced. I couldn't stop watching. An easy 9-10 rating from me (see my Superhero list to get a sense of the stuff I like).
Great plot, great cast, high production values. It had elements of The Wire (2002) vibing strongly with Heroes (2006) but... uniquely Supacell.

Oh... this was awful. I watched about 10 minutes but it felt like I watched it for much longer.
I don't know who's putting these shows together but they are completely out of touch at every level. I honestly don't even look forward to anything Star Trek related anymore.
I've lost respect for the franchise long ago. The only thing good were the Fan Films and these wankers took that away too.

In the mid-1970s, I would watch some reruns of Batman (1966). Even at around 7 years old, I had trouble with the campiness of the series and serial format. I put up with it because it was one of the few superhero shows airing.
I remember watching Green Hornet and Kato in that cross-over episode with Batman those many decades ago... I thought both characters were the coolest thing I'd ever seen. I wanted to see more of them.
I never did. Maybe the series didn't air during that period. But... fast forward today and everything is available to everyone at anytime.

16jul2024: Have watched 13 episodes so far and this show has been a real treat to watch. It's stylish and serious. It's loaded with good, real world characters.
The stories have been surprisingly good. I find that I can watch 2, maybe 3 episodes in a row and not lose interest. This is saying an awful lot about a show written in the 1960s.
I also find that I look forward to the series daily.

----------------------------------
I watched the entire first season and I have to admit, I really enjoyed this series. It took some big chances and ended very strong.
I would have really loved to have seen a season 2 because this show was really coming into its own.
I thought this show had plenty of bite but needed to refrain from the simple 'us vs them'. Where one group is always right no matter what misdeeds they engage in while the other group is wrong in a contrived way.
It's why the ending of season 1 was so powerful while fixing some of those nagging issues surfacing during the season.

Started watching this series on 26aug2023 and found it to be a fun series with great characters. Loved the easy flowing 80s-style story telling (lots of 90s shows still followed an 80s-style formula).
I discovered that it had a degree of modern-day binge-ability.
That is... I could watch several episodes easily but at some point I'd get burnt out and needed to engage with more modern story-telling.
After a few starts and stops, I finally finished the series on 21jun2024 (10 months later).
My biggest takeaways: (1) Selma. Not too many AIs quite like this lady. She is one of a kind. (2) Good casting for this type of show. (3) A premise that keeps you coming back for more and... (4) The engaging, worry-free - 80s-style story-telling.
Having seen this now, will remove from this list at some point.

24jun2024: Watched the entire first season (13 episodes) and I really liked it! Each episode is from 5-7 minutes long - so it moves pretty quickly.
The characters are so great to watch. The stories so well-written - in such a fun way. The first season also offers complete closure.
It seems like only the first season (2014, 13 episodes) is available on streaming. Have had no luck finding season 2 anywhere (2017; 10 episodes).

I never knew this existed. I'm not even sure how I stumbled across it. Regardless... binged the entire 15 episode series toward the end on June/2024. So good. Funny, light, relaxing, great 80s music. A hidden gem.
I see that it's currently rated 8.3 by (only) 601 thru 28jun2024. I completely agree. This is an 8+ on the entertainment meter.

Light, fun series. Each episode is about ~4 minutes long so the entire series goes by very quickly.
The acting, production values and cast were all very good. The plot itself fun and untaxing. I had a good time watching this.

--------
07jul2024: Watched the short film and it was excellent! The gritty atmosphere, the larger than life characters (Green Hornet, Kato), the action and especially... the fight scenes.
------------------------
There were two parts I didn't like.. the first was when the bad guy called The Green Hornet by his actual name... Mr. Reid. Was this an error or done on purpose?
The second part was at the end when the radio announced that The Green Hornet hoped the police would work with them to fight crime. Doesn't this work against the core of GH or was the producer trying to redefine The Green Hornet?

Would like to give this show one more chance. I think I'm more relaxed about my expectations and might find good entertainment value mixed with decent/light sci-fi.
Also... there aren't too many space-faring Sci-fi shows out these days...
-------------------
update, 19jul2024: I finished watching season 1 on 03jul2022 and then (very slowly) started watching additional episodes. I just finished episode 11 of season 2.
The show is kinda' bland, weak scripts, predictable but overall solidly written (that is... not plot-hole heavy).
The tech doesn't appear too advanced (compared to other space-based Sci-fi) except for Rommie (the Andromeda AI) and medicinal nanotech. I love likable (and smartly written) AIs and Andromeda Ascendant really hits the spot. She (it) is already one of my favorite AIs of all time.
The crew has grown on me except for Seamus Harper (annoying) and Tyr Anasazi (selfish) but find myself grudgingly accepting them. I'm mostly enjoying the series because I adjusted my expectations but it's still on the fence.
I think the IMDB rating for this series (so far) is pretty spot on (6.7) for an undemanding space adventure series - though I would rate it closer to 6.0..

I thought the original series was so good, I even included it on my Greatest Superhero TV Shows of All-Time list. That list was originally only for Live Action TV Shows but X-Men (and later Invincible) forced me to make some adjustments to that list.
We can only hope right now that this new series delivers the same quality - a serious show written for an adult mindset.

Season 3 was confirmed on February 2024.
Have not seen this series yet. Skipped ahead and watched a few minutes from season 1, episode 4. It looked good enough to make this watchlist.

DD is Born Again... on Disney. Premiered on 04mar2025.
The first season will consist of 18 episodes split into two parts of 9 episodes each. So... basically 2 seasons of 9 episodes each.
-----------------------
My original comment from 2022...
update, 29dec2022: Everything I'm reading indicates a softer, funnier version of DD. Lots of one-liners. That sense of the real-world gone in order to appeal to pre-teens and their soccer moms.
I have been afraid for a long time that the superhero genre was going to fall into the parody-like shows reminiscent of the 1960s Batman Series. It's been happening for a long while (since the original Avengers film full of quips and a World War that was cartoonish).
Did you see the latest Thor film (Love and Thunder)? One-liner after one-liner, all film long. No sense of danger, no sense of realism. Thor was practically a clown.
The genre is being diluted by money-grubbers. Diluted by people with no interest in the genre itself, who don't take the characters seriously.
I fear that I should prepare for a major disappointment. - CreatorDestin Daniel CrettonStarsYahya Abdul-Mateen IIBen KingsleyDemetrius GrosseHollywood actor Simon Williams is thrust into the world of superheroes as he gets powers of his own, and becomes the new superhero Wonder Man.20sep2024: 10 episode miniseries.
