Originally formed as a distribution outlet for Robertson–Cole Pictures, the whole company subsequently adopted the name. Ralph Long's car plunges down an embankment, and he is dragged from the wreckage and looked after by the Weed, who soon captivates him with her charm and ingenuousness. While he is in the hospital, however, the lecherous Kenneth Stewart snaps a photo of the girl swimming in the nude in a mountain pool and hangs an enlargement of it in his club. He once attempts to enter her room but she bolts him out. Through a neighbor, Ralph learns that Stewart is actually the girl's father, whose abandonment of his wife soon after the Weed's birth led to the woman's death. Ralph confronts Stewart, and the latter, deeply ashamed, leaves town. Ralph resolves to keep the truth from the Weed and proposes to her.

Next, she bets the duke that his jewels are fake and thereby wins a large sum of money. The duke persuades Norma to secure some old love letters from the man who is blackmailing him, Emerson Trent. After accomplishing this task, Norma discovers that Trent is not only the man who ruined her father, but the uncle of the man she loves, Oliver Garrett. Impressed by her courage, Trent promises to make amends, and Norma, her financial worries ended, marries Oliver.

Tony Barrows, the foppish scion of a wealthy family, falls in love with Hoop-La, but she resents his snobbery and makes faces at him. When Hoop-La learns that her father was wealthy, she secretly marries McGee to save herself from a dull society life, but when she discovers McGee's true character, she promises to keep him supplied with money if he leaves. After Hoop-La goes to live in her own luxurious home, McGee plans to make the marriage known and live with her, but he dies in a tent fire caused by his own drunken debauchery. Hoop-La marries Tony, who has matured and come back from the war.

Herbert, who is treasurer of the Belgian Babies War Relief organization, places a baby on Jimmie's doorstep as a practical joke. Herbert is subsequently involved in an auto accident and cannot leave the hospital for several days. Jimmie hides the baby in a cupboard and tries to conceal its cries from Mary and her mother. After Jimmie, believing that Herbert embezzled the relief group's funds, takes the Liberty bonds, and Hepzibah steals them from him and elopes with another man, Herbert escapes from the hospital, the bonds are recovered, Jimmie's reputation is reestablished, and his romance with Mary flourishes.

Echo boards a train to offer to marry Craig for returning the letters. Harry, on the same train, and now beardless, follows Echo to Craig's home, where a burglary occurs. After Harry, not recognized by Echo, gives her the letters, Craig is shot, and Harry, along with Paddy--now a burglar--is sent to prison. Harry escapes and finds himself nominated to run for governor on the "dry" ticket. After Echo confirms that he was innocent of shooting Craig, Harry wins the election and her love.

Logan is in jail awaiting a trial, so Jim persuades "Monte" to assume Logan's role. Monte moves to Logan's dugout abode, and tantalizes Hope with lurid tales of his misdoings. She falls in love and after he explains that his life as a badman began when he was struck on the head, Jim tells Hope to cure him by hitting his head again. Logan breaks out of prison and, through his window, sees Hope knock Monte unconscious. After Logan abducts her, Monte awakens and pursues them. When he sees Logan threaten to kill Hope to make a posse disperse, Monte places his signet ring at Logan's neck and says it is a gun. Logan surrenders, and even though Hope learns the truth about Monte, she still loves him.

When Anna, performing as "Zura," quits, Garson discovers Mary wandering the streets and gives her $5,000 to appear as Zura, while she promises secrecy. After La Rouge comes and murders Anna, Garson makes it look as if Mary died. Mary's fiancé, Richard Crane, returning from an engineering project in South America, finds Mary, but she will not admit her identity. When Anna's fiancé, John Wentworth, realizes the ruse and informs the police, Richard confesses to protect Mary. Mary goes to Paris and dances before Pierre as Anna's ghost. After he confesses, she and Richard find happiness in South America.

In America, Toyama becomes an assistant to Dr. Stone, studying cures for inherited vices. When Toyama learns that Sada has been sentenced to death for murdering a prominent banker who attacked her, Toyama disappears and gives in to his hereditary tendency to drink until Dr. Stone cures him. Unknown to Toyama, Sada's sentence is commuted to life imprisonment when she gives birth to their daughter. Meanwhile, Toyama marries Stone's half-Japanese daughter Emily to fulfill Stone's dying request. In Japan, after Toyama lectures women prisoners and recognizes Sada, he discovers that the child he and Emily adopted is really his own daughter. When Sada escapes and finds Toyama, he decides to commit harakiri, but as the prison guards approach, Sada drowns herself to save him.

After she befriends Calvert's daughter Virginia, Chi returns. He pursues Virginia, planning to elope with her after she has stolen the family jewels, but Nancy, drawing on her upbringing, steals them back. When Nancy is caught, Virginia confesses, and Lewis, in love with Nancy, proposes to her.

During their wedding, Mrs. Sylvester announces Boot's past to Graham, but Uncle Ben, now reformed, reveals that Boots is really the daughter of Major Richard Harvey, who is present. The happy couple then resume their wedding.

Suki is appointed assistant district attorney and, with the whole city watching because of anonymous death threats sent to him, he steadfastly prosecutes a murder case until Tom confesses to him. To protect Rei, Suki removes himself from the case. Labeled a coward and a traitor to justice, Suki remains silent until Tom publicly confesses. Now regarded as a hero, Suki defends Tom. Rei confesses she never loved Tom, and her romance with Suki begins anew.

At a university town, cow puncher Nick Horton escorts her to the school, where he fights the president and some students, after being told that Kid is not ready to enter. The president stops Kid and Nick from being arrested, and puts Kid in a boarding school, but after she learns that school will last for seven years, she returns to Joe. As they kiss, they fade into a statue of Cupid embracing Psyche.

Despondent, Stephen decides to shoot himself, but when he hazily imagines Julia entering and catching his dead body, he drops the gun and decides to renew his life. After Jonathan Cosgrove, a friend, gives him $5,000 and a room in his home, Stephen discovers Brockwell in Mrs. Cosgrove's bedroom, forcing himself on her. Stephen hurls Brockwell through the window and then, to save Mrs. Cosgrove's reputation, allows Jonathan to think that he is the guilty party. After Mrs. Cosgrove discovers that Brockwell is a forger, she confesses to Jonathan, and arranges a meeting between Stephen and his wife and son that ends happily.

    In the tiny Latin American country of Altamura, American architect, sculptor, and adventurer Larry Donovan is executing a magnificent palace for the vain, diminutive Governor Romero, who is angered by Larry's lack of respect. After leading his co-workers in a riotous Fourth of July celebration, Larry responds to the insults of Generalissimo Pedro Mendez by knocking him out. Mendez' sweetheart Rosa, plotting for Mendez to be governor, hides him in the mountains and fakes his funeral so that Larry will be executed and Romero thrown out. When Larry is taken to the whitewashed execution wall, however, he appeals to Romero's conceit and gets a one-week reprieve to build a statue of Romero for the palace. Before his time is up, Larry receives a gun in jail from an Irish friend using the name of Patricio Cassidano, who also proves that Larry did not kill the now deceased Mendez. After he uses Romero as a shield to escape, Larry obtains Romero's consent to marry his pretty niece Concha.

Goro survives a punctured lung only through the efforts of nurse Gloria Manning, Blair's fiancée. When Goro confesses his love for Gloria, he is shocked to hear of her engagement. Following his recovery, Goro discovers that Blair has given him a bad check, and demands that the gambler pay his debt in person. Although Blair complies, Goro has him arrested for attempted murder. Gloria pleads for her fiancé's release, revealing that she can never love Goro because he is of a different race. The disappointed Goro enables Blair's escape as payment to Gloria for saving his life.

At their Long Island home, Thomas and Tommy become fast friends, while Gibbs falls prey to his flirting stepmother Lillian, to Ellen's dismay. When Ellen and Thomas find Lillian in a negligee at Gibb's studio one morning after Gibbs supposedly was working and Lillian visiting a friend, Gibbs, innocent of any wrong-doing, leaves after quarreling with Thomas and threatening to kill him. The next day, when Thomas is found dead, Gibbs is imprisoned. After Tommy calmly confesses to shooting Thomas while playing soldier, Gibbs is released and reunited with the faithful Ellen.

The stranger identifies himself as the son of the murdered Sheriff Hollister and leads a posse to the Phantom's cave, believing he killed a man during a stagecoach robbery. In reality, the guilty party is Snake Le Gal, who abducted Fawn as a child and delivered her to the Indian village. Snake also robbed the stagecoach, and murdered Sheriff Hollister years earlier. His cohort, Romney, is stabbed trying to rescue Fawn from the lecherous Snake, but lives long enough to stop the Phantom's lynching. The Phantom then races to Snake's cabin and Jimmy shoots the outlaw. With his dying breath, Snake reveals the truth about Fawn's parentage, enabling her to marry young Hollister.

After Dan and his dog team encounter a blizzard, they are saved when Chaudiare and his daughter Aline hear the dogs howl. As Aline nurses Dan, they fall in love, even though he thinks that her mother is an Indian. After Dan thrashes Clay Hibbing, who earlier attacked Aline for refusing to disclose the mine's location, Hibbing and his pal Reirdon find the mine. Dan, although suspected of committing Hibbing's murder of Reirdon, also discovers the mine and races against Hibbing to claim it for Chaudiare. Hibbing freezes to death, Chaudiare makes Dan his partner, Dan is found innocent of killing Reirdon, and Aline, upon learning that she is not a half-breed, marries Dan.

To make her husband jealous, Margaret pretends to be interested romantically in Philip, not knowing that he actually is in love with her. After Philip implicates Margaret in a compromising situation, her husband is eager to divorce her. He gains custody of their son and marries Rita. "Sonny Boy" becomes ill, and Margaret, who has become a nurse, is summoned to care for him. Margaret's devotion saves the boy's life and makes John realize that he has made a mistake. Philip then decides the only way out is to kill himself and Rita, which he does on a joyride. Margaret and John are finally reconciled.

    Nancy Scroggs, the daughter of the owner of a once-famous but now-struggling hotel, hatches a plan to draw in new customers. She picks up Peter Alstyne, a young man following his doctor's orders of a strict diet and a relaxing vacation, at the train station and convinces him--using the philosophy of Christian Science--to disregard his doctor's orders and stay at their hotel and eat all he wants. Soon he and Nancy fall in love and the hotel begins to pick up business again. But soon Peter receives a letter that changes everything for both him and Nancy.
