The Imperial Forces -- under orders from cruel Darth Vader -- hold Princess Leia hostage, in their efforts to quell the rebellion against the Galactic Empire. Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, captain of the Millennium Falcon, work together with the companionable droid duo R2-D2 and C-3PO to rescue the beautiful princess, help the Rebel Alliance, and restore freedom and justice to the Galaxy.

The Rebel Alliance, led by Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo, is on the run from Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire after their victory at the Battle of Yavin. Luke trains with Jedi Master Yoda on the swamp planet Dagobah, while Han and Leia evade the Empire, eventually being captured in Cloud City. Luke and Darth Vader Duel in a Lightsaber battle before losing his hand and learning the truth about Darth Vader.

Luke Skywalker battles horrible Jabba the Hutt and cruel Darth Vader to save his comrades in the Rebel Alliance and triumph over the Galactic Empire. Han Solo and Princess Leia reaffirm their love and team with Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, the Ewoks and the androids C-3PO and R2-D2 to aid in the disruption of the Dark Side and the defeat of the evil emperor.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is a young apprentice Jedi knight under the tutelage of Qui-Gon Jinn; Anakin Skywalker, who will later father Luke Skywalker and become known as Darth Vader, is just a 9-year-old boy. When the Trade Federation cuts off all routes to the planet Naboo, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are assigned to settle the matter.

When the galaxy is on the brink of civil war. Under the leadership of renegade Jedi Master Count Dooku, thousands of systems threaten to secede from the Republic. When an assassination attempt is made on Senator Padmé Amidala, the former Queen of Naboo, Jedi apprentice Anakin Skywalker is assigned to protect her. In contrast, his mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi is assigned to investigate the assassination attempt. Soon, the Jedi are drawn into the heart of the Separatist movement, and the beginning of a new threat to the galaxy: the Clone Wars.

It has been three years since the Clone Wars began. Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker rescue Chancellor Palpatine from General Grievous, the commander of the droid armies, but Grievous escapes. Suspicions are raised within the Jedi Council concerning Chancellor Palpatine, with whom Anakin has formed a bond. Asked to spy on the chancellor, and full of bitterness toward the Jedi Council, Anakin embraces the Dark Side.

The First Order has risen from the ashes of the Galactic Empire and is opposed by General Leia Organa and the Resistance, both of which seek to find the missing Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. In the midst of this search, new heroes rise in the form of Rey, a 19 year-old girl and a Force-sensitive scavenger from Jakku; Finn, a stormtrooper who defected from the First Order; and Poe Dameron, the best pilot in the Resistance. They are aided by Han Solo in their search for Skywalker and their mission to destroy the First Order's new superweapon, Starkiller Base, which targets the New Republic and the Resistance for destruction. They are opposed by villains such as Kylo Ren, a dark warrior with a mysterious past; and General Armitage Hux, the commander of Starkiller Base.

Rey, who seeks the guidance of Luke Skywalker to harness her Force abilities, while the Resistance, led by General Leia Organa, faces the First Order. The Resistance is on the run, and Poe Dameron leads a risky counterattack that doesn't go as planned, while Finn, BB-8, and Rose Tico embark on a separate mission. Meanwhile, Rey's training with Luke is complicated by his disillusionment, and both she and Kylo Ren experience Force visions of each other.

The surviving Resistance faces the First Order once more, while Rey confronts the resurrected Emperor Palpatine, who reveals a deadly secret about her lineage. The film sees the return of Lando Calrissian with reinforcements, the death of Leia Organa, and Ben Solo (Kylo Ren) ultimately joining Rey to fight Palpatine. Rey defeats Palpatine with the help of Jedi voices, but Ben sacrifices himself to revive her, and the Resistance triumphs, with people across the galaxy rising up against the First Order.
