Young scientist Vladimir Bantikov (Nikolai Fyodortsov) from the Institute for Intractable Problems is working on a rainbow formula. In order not to be distracted by numerous unnecessary and boring meetings, he creates his twin - the robot Yashu. After a while, the proud robot escapes from its creator. His search is complicated by the fact that, thanks to the ingenious device he created, the "plasticizer", he was able to change his appearance (however, a little later this device was lost). However, the robot, with all the impeccable logic of its actions, still has characteristic distinctive features: it is soulless in relations with people, thinks straightforwardly and is completely devoid of a sense of humor. To Volodya's surprise, similar qualities were inherent in many people who met him during the search, so sometimes it was impossible to determine who was in front of you - a robot or a living person. In the end, Yasha is found - the director of the institute Kozdolevsky appoints him as an instructor at one of the seaside sports bases, where many funny adventures happened to him. Since Yasha's superpowers do not make it possible to just catch him, he is caught by deception - using his propensity for formal and direct execution of instructions, he is lured into the sea, where he has a short circuit. After this, the robot, through the efforts of Bantikov, after reprogramming, is appointed to the position of the institute doorman.
