Unique progression of story with mature circumstances despite being considered in 'Shonen' genre. Unique characters with amazing character and story arcs unfound in other Shonen anime. Very well-detailed story terminologies without making the audience tired of the details. Amazing animation, writing, and direction for the most part. One of the darkest (and yet well-defined) anime considering Chimera Ant Arc. Great soundtracks.

Unique fusion of Western references, hip-hop and Edo-period Japan turning a typical samurai story into a psychedelic and progressive masterpiece. Amazing score by late music director Nujabes, a masterpiece of director Shinichiro Watanabe.

    StarsYûto NakanoTravis WillinghamKôjun Itô
A mystical adventure following the Mushi Master Ginko through his adventures encountering the basic forms of life called as Mushi. A unique anime in and of itself, mixing slice-of-life with adventure and supernatural, dealing every episode as a detective story, Ginko giving his best to solve every instance he encounters. Reminiscing score of music director Toshio Masudo, responsible for Naruto: Part 1.

    StarsYutaka KoizumiYui MakinoMichael C. Pizzuto
Reality of present-day Japan and its Hikkikomori situation shown with details of harsh truth and dark-humour, yet inclusive of empathy for the protagonist and his shut-in life until it is turned upside down when a girl shows up at his door. Epitome of slice-of-life and dark humour genres, with great writing and detailed characters. A must-watch for enthusiasts in the said-genres.
  • Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro (1979)

    DirectorHayao MiyazakiStarsYasuo YamadaEiko MasuyamaKiyoshi Kobayashi
An amazing adventure of the famed thief Lupin. This movie is the directorial debut of legendary director Hayao Miyazaki, who would later make anime movies like Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, and Princess Mononoke.

Despite being a bit old, the movie expresses its animation in the most fluid and lively form it could have given for at that time. Breathtaking, nostalgic music and amazing story, with great characters, plots and their developments. You are more into anime movies, then Castle of Cagliostro is a must-watch.
  • Made in Abyss (2017)

    2017– 27 epsTV-14TV Series

    StarsMiyu TomitaMariya IseLuci Christian
If you think this shows a happy-go-lucky adventure, you are in for a big surprise. I can say this show qualifies as a pinnacle of 21st century dark-adventure story. Reminiscent of old-games like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6, the show captures the beauty of adventure, the music and the risk the protagonists have to take in the venture they are embarking on.

Great art direction, story, and music.

    StarsShintarô AsanumaHiroyuki YoshinoRin Mizuhara
Not for all, if viewers have a hard-time reading subtitles, for this show is a barrage of that throughout its 11-episode journey. And yet, it expresses satire in a way done unlike any other anime before. A unique method of storytelling, with interesting, quaint and quirky characters that connects no former stereotypes. An amazing experience, if the viewer can tolerate and adapt to the quick dialogues.

    CreatorEiichirô OdaStarsMayumi TanakaAkemi OkamuraTony Beck
Many might believe this show to be overrated and dragged, and I assure up, the latter is pretty much true as the story progresses beyond 400 episodes. As for its popularity in being the best selling manga of all time, as well as, one of the most popular present-day anime, its worth its reputation.

Outstanding story and characters (hands down, the manga running more than a 1000 Chapters should explain that), average animation, great music, and overall great direction and storytelling of the anime from Romance Dawn till the end of Thriller Bark Arc (Ep. 1-381) where the story pacing is tolerable with better directors like Konosuke Uda and Munehisa Sakai led the anime through some of its greatest arcs (CP9 and Alabasta), whilst including filler episodes with actual content and critical acclaim (G-8 arc, Ep. 197-206), which gave canon vibes in the first watch without reach, directly an episode or two by acclaimed directors like Mamoru Hosoda.

    StarsMasako NozawaJôji YanamiBrice Armstrong
Unlike DBZ, its sequel, Dragon Ball is more like a Jackie Chan adventure, with Goku going on adventures fighting enemies with Martial arts just like Jackie Chan in his Martial Arts films, a very much reminiscence of the Wuxia genre from Bruce Lee to Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, added with humour, great story and fun characters. Unlike, DBZ (the American version), Dragon Ball maintains its original music score, a much reminiscence of the anime/popular culture of the 80s.
