No Ropes Barbed Wire Match: David Starr vs Joey Janela: 10+ THE deathmatch of the year. This two in the same ring are perfection. I think this is the best match they've ever had. An instant classic. The storytelling was great, they put all the violence in their body to kill the other in their most important match in Beyond Wrestling. The spot with Penelope added to the match more dramaticity. Even the post-match gave me goosebumps. P E R F E C T I O N.

WALTER/Josh Briggs: On paper, this looks like a hoss fight, but in reality, it wasn't. It was still a WALTER formula with the Austrian dominating and working on top. And it was still beautiful to watch. He totally brutalized Briggs and the opponent made a good comeback. Both tried to hit really hard to each other and I loved it. I also liked Briggs's minor selling the leg when WALTER kicked him earlier and then finally WALTER applied a single-leg boston crab on the right leg he kicked before and Briggs tapped out. Really good little story and selling and it actually made sense. Very good match overall.

"A lot of good wrestlers on this show, but they didn't match them up well enough for any great matches. The two highlights for me was Martin Stone -vs- Flip Gordon [** 3/4] and David Starr -vs- Matt Riddle [** 1/2]. The rest wasn't bad, but held down by lack of interesting booking and reasons to fight.

Dijak vs WALTER was a legit dream match for me, and here in Dijak's last match in Beyond they brought it; they went back and forth while Dijak's crowd was behind him 100%, fighting back the Austrian's monumental offense and slowly breaking him down with his boots and Feast Your Eyes; a spot that commentary mentioned where the crowd was at their loudest to keep Dijak awake in WALTER's sleeper was brilliant (**** to ****1/4). Three awesome matches, none bad, and an emotional farewell for Dijak; another home run for Beyond.

A fine show with a number of solid matches in front of a tired crowd. The Eight Man Tag was too long, but a number of matches hovered around the *** area with few attempting to reach for greatness overall.

Really good show, as is common for Beyond. Hero vs Keith Lee was a very smart match where the two hosses went at it, but also featured Keith scouting a lot of Hero's signature offense, but then succumbing to it when he got cocky (****1/4). BroSteel vs Team Tremendous was pretty slow; Riddle, Barry, and Bill are good, but Chuck was just bland and it felt like he was doing a lot in the match (**1/2).

Pretty good show. Thought the Chris Hero/John Silver and Kimber Lee/LuFisto matches were quite good. Riddle and O'Neil thing looks sweet to me, bro. Cobb came out good on his debut for Beyond. Gresham needs to get to more promotions and really get out there. Brian Fury and Donovan Dijak had a great match that got emotional to watch towards the end for me.

Emenating from 'The Aurora' in Providence, and not Fete, the production aesthetics for the DVD viewer is a lot less pleasant. The poor lighting, jittery editing and odd viewing angles had me frustrated all night. Because it's been a constant for years I'm very accustomed to PWG's well-positioned hard-cam giving us TV viewers a clear, if distanced, observance of what's going on. Here Beyond was constantly searching for the best vantage point a DVD audience can view the proceedings so I did not enjoy the ride the director put us on. Anyway, EE was a late replacement for a banged up Hero and they had a fine match that stayed in second gear too long but wrapped up nicely. J Janela interrupted the long-winded Starr post-match speech and I look forward to seeing them after DS returns from his Oct sojourn in Germany. The teamwork of The Secret Society upended the larger and more experienced trio of D H Squad +. I'm a big LuF fan so her getting comeuppance on Alexxis (from a WWR show) was pleasing. This month's Crusade for Change match was better than the norm thanks to the high spots of the former trainees of the WWA4 wrestling school. Lee/Fox-y was lovely if it felt the spots came off as too pre-planned. CO'N/D Barry was mic-fun but only 68 secs. long. Of the final three singles bouts avoid the empty first ten minutes of JG/TW but all else, CD's bitterness/ring intelligence of T End/DD eager to have a gr-8 match w/ a man he greatly respects, is gritty, captivating stuff.
