Released in 1957, the motion picture takes you to the "Roof of the World," the Himalayas and Karakoram mountains of Central Asia, the highest region in the world. You'll become part of the adventure as explorer Lowell Thomas searches for paradise in the ancient cities, wild waters and lush gardens of the mountaintops. Your first stop is the Forbidden Kingdom of Hunza, a hidden valley bordered by China, Russia, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan, home to a legendary warrior tribe. Next, you'll challenge the rapids of the Mighty Indus River, fed from a fantastic galaxy of great glaciers draining from some of the greatest heights known to man. From there, find respite in the romantic Shalimar Gardens in the Vale of Kashmir, then fly to Katmandu for the coronation ceremony of King Mahendra of Nepal. The adventure concludes with a trip to a U.S. Air Force base, where Thunderbird jet planes cut across the sapphire blue sky overhead at supersonic speed. The film captures the imagination and paradise would be, beauty or adventure or peace.

Following an introduction by Bing Crosby, the Cinerama screen widens for scenes of landscapes, cities, peoples, and entertainments of the Soviet Union. Highlights include the historic buildings and churches of Moscow, as the Kremlin; its subway and streets, a spring carnival, the seaside resorts on the Black Sea, a trip down the Voga River, skiers, a troika racing along a snow-covered road, a helicopter view of the North Pole, an Antarctic whale hunt, the capture of a wild boar in the Moyun-Kum of Central Asia, a race by reindeer-drawn sleds, divers in the Sea of Okhotsk, battling an octopus, the capture of antelopes, rafting logs down the Tisza River, and the development of new towns in Siberia. Other scenes include a visit to the Moscow Circus, where the renowned clown Oleg Popov performs, the dancing of the Moiseyev and Piatnitsky companies, and excerpts from the repertoire of the Bolshoi Theater Ballet.

A young visiting couple from out-of-town, is led on a guided tour of Los Angeles and its environs by a familiar resident (Stanley Livingston) and his wife (Paula Drake), all captured by the panoramic, triple-lensed Cinerama camera. Some popular and some not so well known sights of the city shine in this urban travelogue lark, including the Griffith Observatory, Angel's Flight funicular railway, and a sailboat cruise from San Pedro, culminating in the evening's highlight, a visit to the Cinerama Dome Theater in Hollywood. This was the first film shot in 3-panel Cinerama in 50 years.

As the second installment in a two-part series on Caspian Sea oil workers, the film focuses on the lives and labor of offshore oilmen, particularly those working in the unique settlement of Neft Daslari (Oil Rocks), a pioneering offshore oil platform city in the Caspian Sea. The documentary highlights various aspects of the oil workers' experiences, including their daily routines, community life, and the challenges they face while working in harsh marine conditions. Scenes depict the construction of infrastructure such as drilling platforms and living quarters, as well as moments of leisure and cultural activities among the workers. The film also pays tribute to those who lost their lives in the pursuit of offshore oil extraction.
