Dexter — a punchy indictment of all-too-common prosecutorial failures — remains as stingingly relevant as ever. For lovers of tales about clever, meticulous, and oft-weird characters, the show will never expire. And things are seemingly getting better. The crime drama’s fans never thought they’d have it this good, considering how poorly things ended the first time around. Debra’s death and Dexter’s happy ending arc in the finale left a bad taste in fans’ mouths. Beyond that, the final season, in general, was considered weak by most critics, scoring 35% on Rotten Tomatoes (the lowest for any season). Thankfully, the brilliant minds at Showtime have made serious efforts to write the wrongs.

Dad Shows focus on action-packed sequences and tense storylines to engage viewers, regardless of gender or parental status. Peaky Blinders and Breaking Bad are considered Dad Shows due to their blend of suspenseful crime drama and engrossing storylines. Shows like Mash and Yellowstone give off Dad vibes with their themes of perseverance, family, and relatable characters.
In recent years, the subgenre of "Dad Shows" in TV has soared in popularity, and some of the best series ever can be placed into this category. Although the definition has fluctuated, Dad Shows typically focus on topics such as seeking justice, violence, spies, and crime, but this has never been an exclusive rule. For a show to be considered a Dad Show, its main function would be to engage viewers with action-packed sequences and tense storylines, just as the very best Dad movies do.
Importantly, a Dad Show can be enjoyed by anyone,...

Band of Brothers cast includes Tom Hardy, Jimmy Fallon, and many familiar actors playing real WWII soldiers. The series is based on the book by Stephen E. Ambrose and follows Easy Company through the major events of WWII. Despite some creative liberties, the show is known for its authenticity and remains one of the greatest TV shows ever made.
From Tom Hardy to Jimmy Fallon, the cast of Band of Brothers is packed with familiar actors in both major and minor roles. It has been over 20 years since the HBO World War II miniseries, based on the book of the same name by Stephen A. Ambrose, originally aired. Despite the time that has passed, the show regularly still lands on lists of the greatest-ever TV series. No Time to Die director Cary Joji Fukunaga has finally found his next directorial project in the form of the crime thriller film titled 77 Blackout. This will be the Emmy-winning filmmakers first movie project in a long while, after previously directing Daniel Craig in his final James Bond movie in 2021.
Per Deadline, Mad Max: Fury Road star Tom Hardy and Oscar winner Mahershala Ali are set to lead the cast of Fukunagas 77 Blackout movie, which takes place in New York City. This project reunites Ali with Fukunaga, after they first collaborated on the third season of HBOs acclaimed crime drama True Detective, where the Jane Eyre director served as a producer. The film is likely inspired by a real-life event that happened in the city back in July 1977, where most parts of NYC were affected by a 25-hour-long electricity blackout. Because of this, some people resorted to looting, arson, and rioting.

When Albert S. Ruddy (played by Miles Teller), Bettye McCart (Juno Temple) and Francis Ford Coppola (Dan Fogler) meet outside Marlon Brando’s house in the fourth episode of “The Offer,” their anticipation is palpable. That goes for the audience watching the limited series on Paramount+ as well: How could any modern performer capture the essence of Brando, one of the most acclaimed and recognizable actors of all time?
That’s the task actor Justin Chambers and makeup department head Katy Fray undertook for “The Offer,” and their work pays off immediately. Chambers’ first scene as Brando – where he auditions to play Don Corleone in “The Godfather” and transforms into the mafia figure on the spot – inspires awe in the show’s characters and will likely have a similar result on the viewers at home.

Frank Sinatra did not get a kick out of The Godfather. This was made abundantly clear in the first episode of Paramount+'s The Offer, which debuted April 28 and takes a dramatized look at the making of the iconic film. We're, of course, referring to the scene where Godfather author Mario Puzo (Patrick Gallo) introduced himself to Ol' Blue Eyes (Frank John Hughes) at celebrity hotspot Chasen's, only to be met with hostility over the similarities between himself and Puzo's mob-adjacent character Johnny Fontane. In a surprising turn of events, Puzo did not back down, as he attempted to stab the Hollywood icon with a fork. What's even wilder? This scene is based on a...

Regarded as one of the best films of all time, “The Godfather” was released in 1972. The film was adapted from Mario Puzo’s best-selling 1969 novel and is set in the 1940s, following the Mafia family the Corelones in New York.
Marlon Brando played The Godfather himself, Don Vito Corleone, who passes down his gangster ties to his sons Sonny (James Caan) and Michael (Al Pacino). Michael has distanced himself from the involvement of his family in crime, but he comes back into the fold after violence claims his Sicilian wife, and he returns home to marry Kay (Diane Keaton) a non-Italian.
The film won the Oscars for Best Picture, Actor (Brando) and Adapted Screenplay and gave birth to one of the best sequels ever made. And now, the story behind the story is being told.

Why is The Offer recommended viewing?
Matthew Goode.
He's so good as longtime producer and Paramount Studios head Robert Evans that you cannot take your eyes off of him, and anything that doesn't work about The Offer is swept under the rug.
Goode's performance is brilliant as he transforms from the actor we've known from The Crown, A Discovery of Witches, Downton Abbey, and The Good Wife into Evans so entirely that it seems as if The Offer was always intended to be his vehicle.
Miles Teller might disagree, as he portrays The Godfather's sole producer, Al Ruddy, and the man from whose book The Offer is adapted.
And to be fair, Teller does a decent job with the material. He makes quite the show of Ruddy's unlikely tale about the mob being as entrenched in The Godfather's production as Mario Puzo (Patrick Gallo) and Francis Ford Coppola (Dan Fogler...

Balfour will play Dean Tavoularis, the production designer who created cinematic magic on a very limited budget.
In addition to Teller, and Goode, who plays Robert Evans, Balfour joins previously announced cast Giovanni Ribisi (Joe Colombo), Colin Hanks (Barry Lapidus), Dan Fogler (Francis Ford Coppola), Juno Temple (Bettye McCartt), Burn Gorman...

Exclusive: Filming on The Offer, Paramount+’s upcoming limited series about the making of The Godfather, was suspended due to a positive test in the central Zone A that includes the cast and those interacting with them, Deadline has learned.
“Out of an abundance of caution, we have temporarily halted production on The Offer due to the return of a positive coronavirus test result during routine testing,” a rep for series producer Paramount Television Studios said in a statement to Deadline about the production pause, which came Wednesday. “We will continue to follow all safety protocols and monitor the situation closely.”
The development comes amid a surge of the Delta Covid variant in Los Angeles. HBO’s Westworld and FX’s American Horror Story also recently paused production over positive Covid tests.

Throughout their long and storied histories in the video game space, both Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell have gone on to become lucrative juggernauts – particularly the former, even when you factor in that Ubisoft has ordered the clandestine series on a one-year hiatus.
That’s something Us producer New Regency is keen to replicate on the big screen. Currently, both properities are on course to be adapted into live-action features, even if they are at different ends of the production spectrum. Assassin’s Creed, for instance, is currently simmering in post, with Justin Kurzel’s time-hopping adventure flick on course to swoop into theaters in December of this year. As for Doug Liman’s rendition of Splinter Cell, it holds a tentative 2017 release date.
Placing Mad Max: Fury Road star Tom Hardy in the role of Sam Fisher, details remain thin on the ground for Liman’s high-profile adaptation of the spy franchise.

Latest update: Uncharted delayed.
In the years since Den Of Geek first sprung into existence, we’ve consistently kept an eye on the videogames that have been touted for the big screen treatment. We’ve tried to list them all in a big article a few times before, and it feels like the time has come to pull a new version together.
If we haven’t heard anything about a certain videogame movie in two years or more, it seems safe to assume that it’s quietly been binned. That’s why you won’t find the likes of BioShock, Devil May Cry, Far Cry, Gears Of War, Halo, Heavy Rain and Rollercoaster Tycoon on this list. If we get proven wrong on any of those, we’ll update this article as more information comes to light.

Read the first part of this series, here.
After Currahee provided an initial introduction to the men of Easy Company, Day Of Days was a jolting wake-up call. The veterans at the episode’s start remind us of just how many men they lost on that first jump. Judging by the opening few minutes of confusion and carnage, you begin to wonder why it wasn’t so many more.
This episode revolves around Operation Overlord which took place on the 6th of June 1944. This was the military codename for the Battle of Normandy which famously included the vast D-Day beach landings. Easy’s job, along with that of many other paratrooper companies, was to land behind enemy lines and secure the causeway leading off the beach.

Jean-Francois Richet (the French helmer whose services were called upon form U.S actioneer Assault on Precinct 13 and the shot in Quebec-France Mesrine films) is set (according to Deadline) to get behind the director’s chair for what might be considered quality item of its genre in the recently Black List mentioned (number ten on the poll) Pox Americana. Code Entertainment’s Al Corley, Bart Rosenblatt and Eugene Musso are producing – we imagine this will nab some A-grade talent down the line for a 2014 shoot. The prod company is also set to begin production on Mission: Blacklist featuring the skillset of one of our favorite Swedish auteurs in Jesper Ganslandt. Pilothouse Pictures’ Erik Jendresen and Jonathan Dana will executive produce.

With all the mindless sequels and reboots that Hollywood has churned out over the last few years, it’s always nice when something original and well-written can break through and get a studio release. Unfortunately, many quality scripts can spend years without ever reaching the right executive to give it the green light. In an effort to make the process a little bit better, former production executive Franklin Leonard started The Black List in 2004. Today, the site announced its ninth annual list of the best unproduced scripts.
To come up with the list, nominations are received from over 250 executives. If a film gets 6 nominations, it gets a spot on the list. The more executives that nominate it, the higher on the list it is. Production for last year’s top film, Draft Day, is underway with the theatrical release scheduled for April, so there’s a pretty good chance that...

The haunting grace note in director Suri Krishnamma's psychological thriller Dark Tourist, written by Frank John Hughes, comes from Melanie Griffith in an exquisite performance as a waitress grieving a crushing loss—and who has the misfortune of crossing paths with a man slowly unraveling into a psychopath. Jim (Michael Cudlitz, of TV's Southland) is a security guard whose hobby is studying serial killers, and who spends his vacations mapping his way through their killing fields. Tourist follows him as he navigates the small town that gave birth to one such figure. In voiceover he reveals an empathy with his current antihero that is slowly revealed to be rooted in his own childhood traumas. As the film softly nods toward the visuals of David Fincher, H...

From director Suri Krishnamma and writer Frank John Hughes, the indie drama Dark Tourist tells the story of graveyard-shift security guard Jim Tahna (Michael Cudlitz), a man with an obsessive interest in serial killers. When he takes a road trip to a small Northern California town to delve into the world of 1960s serial murderer/arsonist Carl Marznap (Pruitt Taylor Vince), he has a chance encounter with a local waitress named Betsy (Melanie Griffith), who shows him that there are other possibilities in life. At the film’s press day, co-stars Michael Cudlitz and Melanie Griffith spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about what attracted them to this project, what it was like to work together, how important trust is, especially when you’re shooting very intense scenes with each other, and what Pruitt Taylor Vince added to the mix. Twelve years ago, HBO put to screen a miniseries that was one part Television event, one part historical drama, which had the considerable backing of executive producers Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks and the hype of being something of a spiritual successor to their highly acclaimed war film Saving Private Ryan. Through ten one hour long episodes, essentially using TV as a medium to explore a vast and epic journey through the Second World War that would simply be impossible to map on the big screen, and with Stephen E Ambrose’s critically acclaimed non-fiction book as source material and a huge cast representing a collective of real world heroes, one of the most ambitious storytelling exercises the small screen has ever mounted was brought to life. The result was much fanfare, both critically and among the masses, a recurring trope that continues to this day, and the fledgling start...

Justified, Season 3, Episode 2: “Cut Ties”
Written by Benjamin Cavell
Directed by Michael Watkins
Airs Tuesdays at 10pm Et on FX
Moreso than with most “prestige” dramas, seasons of Justified tend to follow a pretty set formula in terms of serialization. After a premiere in which the season’s major players are introduced, we get somewhere between two or three episodes that feel less tethered to the season’s master plot, opting instead to flesh out Raylan’s fellow marshals a bit, and remind us of what Raylan’s day job really entails. (Last season, this was especially true of “The Life Inside” and “The I of the Storm.”) “Cut Ties” hews to that pattern more than it breaks from it, but it’s an interesting installment nonetheless – and for unusual reasons.
