While it's a decidedly morbid thought, death is the one thing that truly unites all people. Everyone dies eventually, but if one is lucky, that day comes at a very old age and with loved ones at their bedside. In the world of Stephen King, death often comes at the hands of a vampire, a demon, or a shape-shifting monster that takes the form of a clown named Pennywise.

Of all the fictional locales featured in King's novels and short stories, Derry, Maine, is near the top of the list of places no one should ever want to visit. Anyone who crosses its borders is a potential Pennywise casualty. While the clown usually targets kids, he doesn't always, as seen with Adrian Mellon.

Director Ali Abbasi risked his career to direct the upcoming biopic about former U.S. President Donald Trump called The Apprentice. The Holy Spider director has already worked with sensitive topics based on real-life events, so The Apprentice seemed right up his alley, but other directors and distributors were not willing to take the risk. Abbasi has been vocal about his struggle to make the film and score a distributor, encountering networks like ABC and CBS that refuse to air the movie in TV spots. "It" is one of Stephen King's most beloved novels. The horror story has terrified readers since it debuted in 1986. "It" features some of the most disturbing moments that King has ever created, and that's no small statement. While the story itself is horrifying, "It" explores the lasting impact of childhood trauma. The coming-of-age elements make "It" one of King's most heartfelt stories. Children and adults can feel inspired by seeing the Losers' Club overcome their fears.

Given the book's popularity, a film adaptation was nearly guaranteed. "It" was first adapted as a two-part miniseries in 1990, starring Tim Curry as Pennywise the Clown. The first episode showed the youthful adventures of the Losers' Club, and the second episode flashed forward to their time as adults. While there is a lot of nostalgia for the 1990 "It," the miniseries doesn't quite capture all the nuances that made the novel so beloved.

It would take almost a decade before cameras started rolling and the person sitting prettiest after the whole ordeal became Collin Schiffli. After two indie films written by frequent collaborator David Dastmalchian, he’s finally got his hands in the Hollywood pie with Lionsgate and a modestly star-studded cast of B-listers to help make his stylistic flourishes look good. And there are a lot of them. Whether or not they work to make this riff on “Romeo and Juliet” a success is beside the point.

After This Beautiful City, Canadian director Ed Gass-Donnelly comes back with another film called Small Town Murder Songs. The film will come out in Canada on February 18.

The film is about an aging police officer (Peter Stormare) who lives in a small Mennonite town of Ontario. Life in town is disturbed when the body of a dead woman is found by the local authorities.

Yesterday, at a corporate gathering in New York City, Panasonic showed off their latest plasma 3-D television--the biggest in the world, weighing in at 1,500 pounds and measuring 152 inches, crushing the last record the company held of 103 inches. But why stop at that monstrous size?

According to Jim Noecker, head of Panasonic's business development for professional displays, it's because this was the largest size that wouldn't require multiple glass panels to cover the screen. And with its insane resolution of 4k by 2k, the TV is the equivalent of nine 50-inch displays, says Noecker.

"If you lay it on its back, you could probably see it from space," he joked.

We’d like to make a rare exception for “Sita Sings the Blues,” a simply wonderful animated film that we only wish we had more time to spotlight but that we wanted to make sure you knew was available before the end of the year. A Pulitzer Prize-winning BBC cameraman was killed and a BBC producer injured when they stepped on land mines while filming in Kurdish northern Iraq, the pubcaster said Thursday. BBC director of news Richard Sambrook told reporters that Iranian-born Kaveh Golestan, 52, was killed instantly Wednesday afternoon in the Kurdish town of Kifri after stepping out of his car and onto a mine. BBC producer Stuart Hughes was also caught in the blast and suffered a foot injury, while the BBC's Tehran correspondent, Jim Muir, and a local translator were unhurt save for cuts and bruises. Hughes has since been taken to an American military hospital in Sulaymaniya in northern Iraq for treatment. Golestan, who is survived by his wife and 19-year-old son, won a Pulitzer for his work during the Iranian revolution. He had worked as a BBC freelance cameraman since 2001. "Kaveh Golestan was an outstanding photojournalist who worked in support of freedom of expression in his native Iran and elsewhere and was well-known to many Western news organizations," Sambrook said. "Our deepest sympathy goes to his family and friends. This once again illustrates the dangers faced by news teams covering the war in Iraq." The news came as Stewart Purvis, chief executive of British commercial news provider ITN, accused U.S. and British military leaders of concealing the details surrounding the death of veteran ITN reporter Terry Lloyd two weeks ago in what ITN claims was a "friendly fire" incident. Lloyd's colleagues, cameraman Fred Nerac and Lebanese translator Hussein Osman, are still missing and feared dead.
