Chet Hanks Taps Father Tom Hanks for ‘Forrest Gump’-Inspired “You Better Run” Music Video
Image
This time, it’s not Tom Hanks running but rather his son, Chet Hanks.

The music video (below) for Something Out West’s — the duo consisting of Chet and Drew Arthur — new song “You Better Run” features scenes inspired by Tom’s 1994 classic film Forrest Gump and an appearance by the Oscar winner.

One of the most memorable lines from the film is when young Jenny (Hanna Hall) says to a young Forrest (Michael Conner Humphreys), “Run, Forrest, Run,” as he’s being chased by bullies on bicycles. Throughout the film, the line symbolizes Forrest’s tendency to keep moving forward, even when facing challenges as a grown man, played by Tom.

In the “You Better Run” music video, Chet recreates the Forrest Gump scene, but this time, he’s the one running from bullies in a red pickup truck.

“You better run like the devil’s on your tail...

What Happened To Forrest Gump's Young Forrest Actor After The Movie
Image
Though Michael Conner Humphreys is best known for playing young Forrest in Robert Zemeckis’s 1994 film Forrest Gump, he went on to have an interesting career after the production. While Tom Hanks is the film’s main star, portraying the adult Forrest Gump as he meets real-life figures and innocently encounters American history in real-time, Humphreys's performance sets the tone at the beginning of the film. The Oscar-winning movie is famous for its stellar cast and iconic quotes from Forrest, both young and old.

When he was eight years old, Humphreys attended a casting call that was reportedly for "a young Tom Hanks with light eyes and a quirky disposition." Due to his southern accent and fitting appearance, Humphreys was chosen to play the younger version of Forrest. Humphreys and Hanks worked closely to make sure the child and adult characters resembled each other, with Hanks drawing on Humphreys' real...

10 Oscar-Winning Performances With The Most Screen Time
Image
From Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump to Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer, some of the best Oscar-winning actors were given plenty of screen time to shine in their Academy-favorite performances. Its always impressive when an actor wins an Oscar with limited screen time, like Anthony Hopkins for The Silence of the Lambs or Beatrice Straight for just five minutes in Network, but theyre much more likely to catch the Academys attention if theyre on-screen for the overwhelming majority of the movie. The more screen time an actor has, the more opportunities they have to wow Oscar voters.

The Academy Awards for Best Actor and Best Actress tend to go to movies that essentially function as a showcase for their lead actor. Joaquin Phoenix is on-screen for all but 19 minutes of Joker (and a few of those minutes are end credits). Even though the opening act of Forrest Gump covers the characters childhood,...

What Happened To Forrest Gump's Young Jenny Actor After The Movie
Image
Forrest Gump's Jenny is one of the most iconic characters of her era. The way her name is said by the titular character has become one of the most memorable parts of the movie. Jenny is played by Robin Wright in the film, who later marries Tom Hanks' Forrest after they fall in love in adulthood. In the film, Jenny and Forrest have a child together, but Jenny tragically dies at the age of 32.

Both Jenny and Forrest also have younger counterparts in the film, which shows the pair when they are growing up. Young Forrest is played by Michael Conner Humphreys, who did very little acting after appearing in Forrest Gump. Young Jenny, on the other hand, was played by Hanna Hall. Hall's role in Forrest Gump and later career is worth exploring in more detail.

Forrest Gump True Story: Every Historical Event & How Accurate They Are
Image
As Forrest Gump explores the life of Tom Hanks' character, Forrest finds himself in the midst of some of the biggest historical events of the 1960s and '70s. However, the Forrest Gump true story is anything but, and this deliberate disregard for historical accuracy is where the movie gets its charm. Forrest Gump premiered in 1994 to critical acclaim, eventually winning the Academy Award for Best Picture. Forrest Gump has polarized audiences ever since, with some viewing it as a hollow glorification of the 20th century, while others see it as a compelling tale of division and passion in American history.

Forrest Gump grossed around $678 million at the worldwide box office against a budget of $55 million, the second-highest-grossing movie of 1994, only trailing behind The Lion King's $978.8 million earnings.

Hanks' character is essentially a tour guide through the second half of the 20th century, involved in some of the most...

Where The Forrest Gump Cast Is Now: What Each Actor Did After The 1994 Movie
Image
Tom Hanks became a Hollywood A-lister after Forrest Gump, earning more Oscar nominations and iconic roles like Woody in Toy Story. Young actors like Michael Conner Humphreys and Hanna R. Hall made their debuts in Forrest Gump and continued acting in various films and TV series. Supporting actors like Gary Sinise, Mykelti Williamson, and Sally Field maintained successful careers in Hollywood, appearing in numerous films and TV shows.

After 30 years, the movie Forrest Gump remains one of the great classic movies of American cinema, but it's worth looking back and seeing where the actors from the film are today. In 1994, Forrest Gump premiered in theaters, where it topped the box office charts in its first week of release and dethroned The Lion King from the number one spot just four weeks into its run. The film continued to rank high in the charts, and shortly after its initial release, it...

Celebs Who Changed Their Careers: Frankie Muniz, Willa Ford & More

Child actors sometimes continue on the Hollywood path, continuing to seek acting roles as they grow from cute kids to teens to adults.

Not all of those former child stars make the difficult transition to adult roles — and not all of them even want to.

For proof, take a look at the unique, outside-of-Hollywood jobs that these recognizable child stars now hold.

Frankie Muniz: Race Car Driver

In early January, the “Malcolm in the Middle” star announced on Instagram that he was ready to begin pursuing his dream of becoming a NASCAR driver.

“Ever since childhood, it’s been my dream to pursue racing in NASCAR,” Muniz told Yahoo! Entertainment.

Forrest Gump's Accent Explained (The Reason Is So Heartwarming!)
Image
Tom Hanks' Forrest Gump voice is one of the most imitated in film history, but the story behind its origin is not as well known. Decades after the film's release in July 1994, Forrest Gump's accent is still one of the character's most defining and recognizable traits. The story behind how Hanks came to create the Forrest Gump accent is not as instantly familiar, but it is genuinely heartwarming, and it gives further insight into the beloved actor's mindset and character.

It's well known that Forrest Gump is from Alabama, yet his accent can be difficult to place. In reality, the voice that Tom Hanks used to bring Forrest to life is from Mississippi. Notably, the reason why Hanks chose this accent underscores why he is a respected leading actor and what it means to be part of a Tom Hanks movie.

How Kurt Russell Ended Up As Elvis' Voice In Forrest Gump
Image
One of the reasons "Forrest Gump" is a cherished movie is because of the way it lightheartedly traverses decades of key moments in U.S. history and popular culture through the eyes of an altruistic titular protagonist, Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) -- inspired by a couple of real-life blokes. In the eyes of the film, even one simple person can make a big impact on the world around them. The film cleverly blends these events with a fictional narrative to show the significance of Forrest's actions.

In "Forrest Gump," during Alabama Governor George Wallace's 1963 "Stand in the Schoolhouse Door" event where he protested the de-segregation of schools, Forrest curiously watches from the crowd and then helps African-American student Vivian Malone when she drops her books on her way into the school.

Later, during an appearance alongside John Lennon on "The Dick Cavett Show," Forrest inspires the lyrics to Lennon's best-selling single "Imagine.

Tom Hanks shares the story of the boy who inspired the voice of Forrest Gump
Graham Norton
On the BBC's Graham Norton Show last week, Tom Hanks told how after searching for the voice of Gump, he found his muse in the young Mississippi boy who portrayed Gump in his early years. Hanks also reveals that the boy named Michael Conner Humphreys is now a grown up veteran of Us Army service in Afganistan. Hanks said he spent hours in conversation with the then 7 year old, capturing his cadence and inflections. Watch the clip before to see Hanks' amazing imitation of the boy who became the voice of Gump.

Oscar Nominations Rare for Portrayals of the Same Character in the Same Film
By Anjelica Oswald

Managing Editor

[Warning: Potential spoilers ahead for Interstellar.]

Only two times in Oscar history have there been Oscar nominations for two actors playing the same character in the same film. The first time this happened was in 1998 when Kate Winslet received a lead actress nomination for her portrayal of a young Rose in Titanic (1997) and Gloria Stuart received a supporting actress nomination for Old Rose. Winslet did it again in 2002 when she was nominated for her supporting role as Young Iris Murdoch in Iris (2001) and Judi Dench was nominated for her lead role.

More often than not, when there are multiple portrayals of a character in a film, there is a child actor and the adult who gets the more prominent role and the Oscar nomination, such as with Forrest Gump (1994). Tom Hanks won an Oscar for his portrayal of Forrest Gump, while Michael Conner Humphreys played Young Forrest.

Should Christopher Nolan’s...

It isn't known if this is a limited theatrical run, or if the studio is rolling out a newly-restored version of the drama for the anniversary release. The drama starring Tom Hanks will be going up against Lionsgate's Addicted and Open Road Films' The Green Inferno.

Tom Hanks took home his second Academy Award for his portrayal of the title character, as the plot follows his life story.
