Geoff Hurst

Edit
  • Hurst is a former England international footballer who won the FIFA World Cup of 1966 and played in the 1970 tournament as well.
  • The first footballer to have scored a hat-trick (three goals) in a FIFA World Cup final. However, the second is one of the most controversial in the history of the World Cup, as it did not clearly cross the line and gave England a 3-2 lead in extra time against West Germany. The game ended 4-2 to England. When Frank Lampard scored a goal against Germany in the 2010 World Cup which did clearly cross the line and wasn't given, some in the German press called it payback time for England.
  • He played in 49 matches for England and scored a total of 24 goals.
  • He was awarded the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the 1979 Queen's Honours List and awarded Knight Bachelor of the Order of the British Empire in the 1998 Queen's Birthday Honours List for his services to Association Football.
  • He is a celebrity supporter of the Orchid Cancer Appeal in the United Kingdom.
