The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) tonight announced the winners of the 46th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards at a grand gala held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, Southern California.

“The National Academy is pleased to be honoring the men and women who make Daytime television one of the staples of the entertainment industry,” said Terry O’Reilly, Chairman, NATAS. In addition to those honored tonight with the prestigious Emmy Award, we are especially pleased to be highlighting the careers of two of our television icons, ‘Judge Judy’ Sheindlin and Chef Jacques Pepin with our Lifetime Achievement Award. With our tributes to the wonderful career of Kathie Lee Gifford and the remarkable 50-year achievement of ‘Sesame Street,’ it’s a wonderful evening to celebrate Daytime television.”

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences held the 46th annual Daytime Emmy Awards on May 5, in addition to the Daytime Emmy Creative Arts Awards on May 3, celebrating the very best of programming airing from 2:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. during the 2018 calendar year.

This year’s winners spanned a host of shows, including multiple wins for “General Hospital,” “Sesame Street,” and “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

Beloved longtime host of “Jeopardy” Alex Trebek won his sixth Outstanding Game Show Host Emmy Award and received a standing ovation upon reception. Trebek announced in March that he had been diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer and was aggressively fighting the disease.

“Days of Our Lives” came into the 2019 Daytime Emmys with the most nominations (27), but it was “The Young and the Restless” that left Sunday night’s ceremony with top honors. The CBS soap opera won Best Drama Series for the 10th time in its history, which makes it the second show ever to hit double digits, following “General Hospital” with its record 13 victories. It was a big night for the actors on ABC’s “General Hospital,” who won five of the seven awards for their performances, including Maurice Benard, who won for Lead Actor, Vernee Watson for Supporting Actress, Max Gail for Supporting Actor, Hayley Erin for Younger Actress and Patricia Bethune for Guest Performer.

Jacqueline MacInnes Wood from “The Bold and the Beautiful” took home the trophy for Lead Actress, her fourth nomination and first win.

The Daytime Emmys revived the category of Best Guest Performer in 2015 almost 30 years after it had last been handed out in 1987, but a new rule instituted this year could be highly consequential. In the last four years this award was restricted to actors playing newly created roles, but this year the academy opened it up to established characters as well. This year there are two returning roles in the running: Kate Mansi as Abigail Deveraux and Thaao Penghlis as Andre Dimera, both from “Days of Our Lives.” Both have been Emmy contenders before for these roles (and Mansi was a winner), so does that give them an advantage?

That depends on their Emmy reels. These awards are unique in that both the nominees and the winners were determined by blue ribbon panels viewing sample performance reels from the actors up for consideration. Those submissions tend to level the playing field,...

Nominations for the 46th annual Daytime Emmy Awards were announced on Wednesday on CBS’ The Talk, and NBC’s Days of Our Lives led the soapy pack with 27 total nods, edging out General Hospital’s 25. The Young and the Restless followed with 20, while CBS sister series The Bold and the Beautiful netted 12.

Despite exiting The Talk in September, Julie Chen appeared in enough episodes to qualify for a co-host nod.

By outlet, CBS amassed 61 total nods across all categories, while syndicated programs accounted for 55. Amazon and Netflix racked up 49 each.

The Daytime Emmy Awards cover a wide variety of programming including soap operas, talk shows, game shows, children’s shows, animation and more. In recent years the awards have also expanded into the online streaming realm, just like their primetime counterparts, so digital drama series and programs from Netflix and Amazon are also represented.

The awards for dramatic acting are unique as they undergo an extra pre-nominations phase of voting. TV academy members watched short sample clips of all entrants for lead and supporting awards.

We've been talking about David Yohe's adaptation of Franz Kafka's Metamorphosis for a while now. For those uninitiated, the story follows one unfortunate man's transformation into an insect. Today a video surfaced online discussing just how that change will take place.

Yohe is directing from a script he co-wrote with Jason Goldberg. Jeff Laub, Nicole Castro, Cory Bird, and Wade Miller are producing with Goldberg, Yohe, Tara Kleinpeter, and Thom Spitler exec producing.

The story focuses on a 17-year-old who wakes up one morning to an inexplicable illness that transforms him into the unimaginable -- a hideous, human-sized cockroach. His parents come home to discover him afraid and hiding from his new form and are now faced with the decision of accepting a monster in their suburban home or exterminating their own son.

Apparently David Yohe is directing a "short film" to get the full financing for his feature Metamorphosis, which is to star Nick Searcy, Patricia Bethune and Matt Angel. Gearing up for the July shoot, he has released the below teaser for the short that gives a taste of the creature. "The story focuses on a 17-year-old who wakes up one morning to an inexplicable illness that transforms him into the unimaginable -- a hideous, human-sized cockroach. His parents come home to discover him afraid and hiding from his new form and are now faced with the decision of accepting a monster in their suburban home or exterminating their own son."...

For a short film, David Yohe's Metamorphosis is certainly signing up some heavy hitters for its cast! Joining the previously announced Nick Searcy ("Justified", "American Gothic") and Matt Angel ("CSI: NY") is Patricia Bethune ("True Blood", "Mad Men").

Variety broke the news that Bethune has boarded the project from Isotropic Films, which is planning to begin production in Los Angeles in late July with David Yohe directing from a script he co-wrote with Jason Goldberg. Jeff Laub, Nicole Castro, Cory Bird, and Wade Miller are producing with Goldberg, Yohe, Tara Kleinpeter, and Thom Spitler exec producing.

Patricia Bethune ("Mad Men") has joined the cast of indie thriller Metamorphosis, a project inspired by Franz Kafka's novel that "focuses on a 17-year-old who wakes up one morning to an inexplicable illness that transforms him into a hideous, human-sized cockroach. His parents come home to discover him afraid and hiding from his new form and are now faced with the decision of accepting a monster in their suburban home or exterminating their own son." Isotropic Films is planning to begin production in Los Angeles in late July with David Yohe directing from a script he co-wrote with Jason Goldberg. Bethune is joining Nick Searcy of "Justified" and Matt Angel ("R.L. Stine's The Haunting Hour").

Only five episodes in, "Mad Men's" fourth season has already proven to be one of the series' strongest, and definitely its most entertaining. But unlike its predecessors, "The Chrysanthemum and the Sword's" competing narratives had decidedly stronger competing tones. There was drama at the agency, but also plenty of hijinks and laughs -- like "The West Wing" during its Sorkin years. But back at the Draper and Francis residences? "Mommie Dearest." The experience on the family side of things reminded me of reading Jonathan Franzen's brilliant The Corrections, which was both enjoyable and miserable. I knew I was reading an impressive piece of fiction, but I couldn't help but feel like it was a punishment. Perhaps in "Mad Men," the dissonance was more acute this time because the storylines shared an episode, scenes alternating between the drama of Don and Betty's kids and that of Sterling Cooper Draper Price.
