Shogun is picking up some major wins at the SAG Awards. These mark the latest of many accolades acquired by the hit FX series following its debut last year.

The SAG Awards were held on Feb. 23 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. Multiple major awards were picked up by Shogun at the event. This includes series star Anna Sawai winning for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her role as Toda Mariko. She overcame fellow nominees Kathy Bates (Matlock), Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton), Allison Janney (The Diplomat), and Keri Russell (The Diplomat).

The explosive ending to the penultimate episode of FX and Hulu’s Shōgun sets the stage for the epic finale to come. Ishido (Takehiro Hira) is desperate to hold onto his power, and is willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that everyone bows down to his will. With the arrival of Yabushige (Tadanobu Asano), Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), and Mariko (Anna Sawai) in Osaka, Ishido’s hold on the other Regents comes into question, and the delicate balance of power in Japan finally begins to topple.

Shgun episode 9 features a pivotal moment where Blackthorne agrees to be Mariko's second in her ritual suicide, to save her from having to commit a mortal sin. Sawai explains that, despite the scene's darkness, Blackthorne's gesture is deeply romantic. Though Blackthorne has rebelled against the rules of Japanese society, Mariko sees through this act how much he has changed.

Shōgun star Anna Sawai breaks down the emotional scenes between her character Toda Mariko and John Blackthrone (Cosmo Jarvis) in episode 9. The two characters have had a complex relationship throughout the series as they navigate their feelings for one another while fulfilling their respective duties. In Shōgun episode 9, this culminates in a particularly devastating scene in which Mariko nearly takes her own life when Kiyama ukon Sadanaga (Hiromoto Ida) doesn't fulfill his promise, and Blackthorne steps in to serve as her second instead.

FX's "Shogun" sets up a premise grand and sweeping in scale, transporting us to feudal Japan during the late Sengoku period, a time when civil wars and social strife continuously plagued the nation. The source material for the limited 10-part series is James Clavell's 1975 novel "Shogun," a stunning, expansive work of historical fiction that spans more than 1,200 pages and details the fictionalized exploits of a real event. The new Hulu/FX historical epic series Shōgun follows the clash for power in feudal Japan between the five regent lords known as the Council of Regents.
