With 8 Episodes Already Shot, Matthew McConaughey’s Upcoming Apple TV+ Show Hits a Wall After Shocking Writer Exit
Image
Matthew McConaughey’s new Apple TV+ comedy, also starring Woody Harrelson, Brothers, has hit a major roadbump; production has come to a sudden halt. This occurred after eight episodes of the series had already been shot in Austin, Texas. The show is currently stalled due to the shocking exit of showrunner David West Read, who cited “creative differences.”

McConaughey and Harrelson are also the executive producers for the show, and this highlights the fact that even the most seemingly promising projects can fall apart mid-production. They are now in talks with Lee Eisenberg, veteran showrunner, to take up the task of shooting the two remaining episodes and any possible reshoots. Fans are understandably skeptical about the chemistry, storyline, and the momentum of the series going forward.

What is Matthew McConaughey’s ‘Brothers’ about, and why did the filming come to a screeching halt?

Brothers was looked at as a heartfelt...

Matthew McConaughey & Woody Harrelson's Apple TV Series Suffers Setback
Image
Filming a series or movie production always seems like nothing but fun on the outside looking in. While being a part of the cast and crew is a fun experience in itself, it is still a job, and problems arise just like it would at a regular place of work. Sometimes, productions are suspended indefinitely as a result of too many issues, while others take a brief break to get things back on track. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson's Apple TV+ series is the latest project to halt filming while things get sorted out. It seems that the untitled show, which stars and is executive produced by the actors and Skydance Television, sent its cast home due to creative differences.

According to Deadline, sources told the publication that production in Austin, Texas, was paused late last week, and the cast, which includes Holland Taylor, Natalie Martinez and Brittany Ishibashi,...

Woody Harrelson & Matthew McConaughey Apple TV+ Comedy Series Paused as Showrunner Exits
Image
A behind-the-scenes shake-up has halted production of the upcoming Apple TV+ comedy series starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. On Friday, Deadline reported that filming was suspended late last week in Austin, Texas, and that the cast — which also includes Holland Taylor, Natalie Martinez, and Brittany Ishibashi — was sent home. With eight out of the 10 ordered episodes filmed, former showrunner David West Read has reportedly left the production over creative differences about the season’s ending. Now, Lee Eisenberg is in negotiations to assume showrunner duties for the last two episodes and the season’s “likely” reshoots, according to the outlet. The half-hour comedy series stars McConaughey and Harrelson as themselves as the actors and their families try to cohabitate on McConaughey’s Texas ranch. Apple TV+ announced the project more than two years ago, calling the show “a heartfelt odd couple love story revolving around the strange and beautiful...

Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson Apple Comedy Series Pauses Production as Showrunner Exits
Image
Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson’s Apple TV+ comedy series has paused production amid creative changes at the helm of the show.

Variety has confirmed that the series, currently titled “Brothers,” had finished filming eight of its 10 episodes in Texas before the shutdown. David West Read — who served as the series’ writer, showrunner, and executive producer — has departed due to creative differences. Lee Eisenberg is currently in talks to take over as showrunner for the final episodes as well as reshoots.

Eisenberg has previously worked with Apple on the anthology series “Little America” as well as the shows “Lessons in Chemistry” starring Brie Larson and “WeCrashed” starring Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway. His other credits include the hit Amazon series “Jury Duty” as well as “The Office.”

“Brothers” was originally announced in 2023 and is loosely inspired by the two stars’ actual friendship. The official logline states, “Matthew and Woody’s...

Matthew McConaughey & Woody Harrelson’s New Series Halts Production, Loses Showrunner Over Creative Differences
Image
Changes are afoot behind the scenes of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson's untitled Apple TV+ series. Filming has been halted following the departure of David West Read as showrunner.

According to Deadline, eight of the 10 episodes had been shot before production in Austin, Texas was paused last week and the cast sent home. Lee Eisenberg is in negotiations to come on board as the new showrunner, which would entail overseeing the last two episodes and any reshoots. The showrunner change is reportedly due to differing views over how to end the season.

A return to production date is not expected to be set until the series' creative direction has been tweaked. The untitled series, at one point titled Brother from Another Mother and then simply Brothers, stars Harrelson and McConaughey as heightened versions of themselves in a heartfelt odd couple love story revolving around their strange and beautiful sibling-like bond.

Matthew McConaughey & Woody Harrelson’s Brothers Apple Series Pauses Production, Lee Eisenberg In Talks To Join As New Showrunner
Image
Exclusive: Filming has been suspended on Apple TV+’s untitled brothers comedy series from Skydance Television starring and executive produced by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, Deadline has learned. According to sources, production in Austin, TX was paused late last week, with the cast, which includes fellow stars Holland Taylor, Natalie Martinez and Brittany Ishibashi, sent home.

The development, which involves the departure of showrunner David West Read, comes as eight of the series’ 10 ordered episodes have been shot. Veteran comedy showrunner Lee Eisenberg, who most recently created and executive produced Apple TV+’s acclaimed limited series Lessons In Chemistry, is in negotiations to come on board as showrunner for the last two episodes and likely reshoots, I hear.

The change is being made amid differing views over how to end the season, sources said. The makeup of the brothers comedy series is unusual — its stars...

‘Runaways’ to End After Season 3 on Hulu
Gregg Sulkin, Ariela Barer, Lyrica Okano, Virginia Gardner, Allegra Acosta, and Rhenzy Feliz in Runaways (2017)
The live-action Marvel series “Runaways” is ending with its upcoming season on Hulu, Variety has learned.

The show, which is based on the Marvel comics series of the same name, is set to debut its third season on Dec. 13. That season will now serve as the show’s finale. According to an individual close to the series, the creative team felt that the third season provided a natural ending point for the show.

It is worth nothing, however, that “Runaways” was one of the few remaining live-action shows under the Marvel Television umbrella as set up by Jeph Loeb. With the end of “Runaways,” the only remaining live-action shows under Loeb’s purview are “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D,” which will end with its upcoming seventh season on ABC, and “Helstrom,” another Hulu series that recently set its main cast. All the rest of the Loeb-produced Marvel shows,...

‘Marvel’s Runaways’ To End With Season 3 On Hulu
The upcoming third season of Marvel’s Runaways will be its last. The 10-episode third season of the Hulu series premieres Dec. 13.

Marvel’s Runaways fans should not be alarmed that the drama would end abruptly with no closure — the story is said to come to a natural ending point at the end of Season 3.

In Season 3, the Runaways frantically search for their captured friends Chase, Gert, and Karolina. The kids go head-to-head with an unstoppable enemy who has targeted Leslie — or more accurately, the child she’s carrying. Nico draws them all into a dark realm where its ruler, Morgan le Fay, played by Elizabeth Hurley, is much more nefarious than anyone the kids have yet to face. (watch a new trailer with the final season announcement above.)

Marvel’s Runaways stars Rhenzy Feliz, Lyrica Okano, Virginia Gardner, Ariela Barer, Gregg Sulkin, Allegra Acosta, Annie Wersching, Ryan Sands, Angel Parker,...

The Darkness is Coming in The Trailer For Marvel's Runaways Season 3
I’m pretty stoked for the upcoming third season of Marvel’s Runaways. This has been a fun show to watch and the next season is going to get a lot more interesting with the arrival of the character Morgan le Fay played by Elizabeth Hurley, as well as the crossover with Freeform’s Cloak & Dagger.

Marvel's Runaways to Crossover with Cloak & Dagger
Hulu is staging a superhero team-up of epic proportions.

It has been announced that the Runaways will be getting some assistance from Cloak & Dagger's Tandy and Tyrone during the upcoming third season of the hit series.

“You’ve all been asking for this and we’ve heard you loud and clear. So we made it happen,” the Runaways cast revealed in the video below, confirming the news.

It's unclear how the different groups will cross paths, but still, this is great news for fans of both Marvel dramas, especially given that Cloak & Dagger has yet to be renewed for a third season.

The show experienced a big dip in the ratings, with the sophomore run averaging around 355k viewers and 0.12 rating in the demo.

James Marsters Confirms ‘Marvel’s Runaways’ Renewed For Season 3
After Hulu danced around answering whether or not Marvel’s Runways would be returning for a third season, actor James Marsters just revealed the news that the comic book series has been renewed.

Marsters broke the news at Lexington Comic & Toy Con this weekend. While on a panel, Marsters, who stars as Victor Stein and Jonah in the series, whispered into the mic that “the showrunner just told the cast that we’re in for a third season!”

He later lamented, “I probably just broke all kinds of Marvel rules.”

He probably did. Shortly after a video of his remarks hit the Internet, Hulu confirmed that Marvel’s Runaways has been renewed for a 10-episode third season. (Get all the details here.)

‘Marvel’s Runaways’ Looks Likely To Return For Third Season As Hulu Content Chief Praises Performance – TCA
Marvel’s Runaways looks set to return to Hulu for a third season after the digital platform’s content chief Craig Erwich praised the performance of the comic book adaptation.

The show’s 13-episode second season launched on December 21, 2018 and it seems likely that there’ll be another run this year.

“We’re really happy with the performance of Runaways, both creatively and in terms of its performance, and we’ll have an announcement shortly,” Erwich said, speaking Monday during Hulu’s session at TCA.

The second season of the Josh Schwartz- and Stephanie Savage-produced series saw the Runaways leaving their home and their evil parents behind and learning to live on their own. It showed them scavenging for food and searching for shelter.

Runaways: Lyrica Okano Weighs In on Episode 2's Brutal Mother/Daughter Brawl, Fallout for 'Deanoru' Romance
Whew, talk about a Staff meeting.

In Episode 2 of Marvel’s Runaways‘ second season (now playing on Hulu), Nico (played by Lyrica Okano) fell into quite a parent trap when she showed up at her family home to reclaim the Staff of One. What followed was a startlingly intense throwdown between mother and daughter — one that threatened to claim some collateral damage along the way, in Nico’s friends.

TVLine spoke with Okano about slugging it out with TV mom Brittany Ishibashi, how the fallout of the fracas affects the nascent Nico/Karolina romance, and “darker” times still yet to come.

‘Marvel’s Runaways’ Review: Season 2 Compromises Strong Characters With Poor Plot Choices
“Marvel’s Runaways,” in its return to Hulu for a second season, launched with the advantage of a great premise: What if a group of teenagers found out that their parents were supervillains? It’s an idea loaded with both emotional weight as well as huge narrative potential, but creators Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz, facing 13 episodes instead of 10, unfortunately chose to err on the side of plot.

The first season of “Runaways” was by and large set-up for the larger story — which is another way of saying that the eponymous characters didn’t actually get around to running away until the final moments of the season finale. But that time was spent on thoroughly developing their dynamics, creating a show that was far more teen soap than superhero drama, in all the best ways.

Season 2 starts off strong, with a commitment to...
